SHORTAGE OF DIPLOMATIC STAFF

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state :-

(a) the details of the current staffing levels in the embassies and consulates;

(b) whether Government has undertaken any steps to address the shortage of diplomatic staff and the other bottlenecks in employment policies across consulates and Embassies;

(c) If so, the details and the notable milestones achieved thereof; and

(d) If not, the reasons therefor?

The Ministry of External Affairs accords highest priority to optimize the deployment of its human resources to help fulfil its growing responsibilities. The Indian Embassies and Consulates are staffed in accordance with their respective sanctioned strengths. The Ministry regularly reviews the requirement of manpower at various levels in Embassies and Consulates abroad and takes appropriate action, including recruitment of additional Officers and Staff, through placement of requisite indents with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) respectively.
