Asia Days Conference , Namaste Switzerland and Literary event on Promotion of Indian culture during Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations organised by EoI, Berne (March 17-25, 2021)

Curtain Raiser and Inaugural event during Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations by PMI, Geneva (March 31, 2021)

The virtual Curtain Raiser and inaugural event on 75 weeks of celebrations of India@75 was organized on 31.3.2021, which included a Panel Discussion on "Indian Women - Their Global Role and Contribution"

Indian Space Programme virtual event organised during Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations by PMI Geneva (April 2021)

PMI/CGI Geneva organized a Virtual event titled “Space Programme of India@75” on 22nd April 2021. Dr. K. Sivan, Chairman, ISRO delivered the Key Note Address. Mr. Houlin Zhao, SG, ITU and Prof. Stephane Paltani, President of the Committee on Space Research of the Swiss Academy of Sciences also addressed the participants. Shri Umamaheswaran, Scientific Secretary, ISRO made a comprehensive power-point presentation about the Space Programme of India. The virtual event included an Interactive Dialogue segment with Q&A session on space programme of India. The event was attended virtually by a significant number of members of diplomatic community, University representatives, Indian Associations in Geneva and Laussane, Youth United Via Action (YUVA) Indian Students Association at EPLF-UNIL, among others. The event was useful in highlighting the journey and the progress India has made since Independence in the field of space. It also focussed on future plans of India and the potential India holds in the field of space. Besides, it also brought to the fore insights of the space programme of India at multilateral platform. The virtual event served as a knowledge-enriching platform for the participants.

Ramazan and Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations organised during Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations by CGI, Geneva ( May 05-11, 2021)

India co-hosted, together with other members of Asian Ambassadors's Wives Association Geneva (AAWAG), a celebration of Ramazan on 5th May 2021 and the spouse of Permanent Representative of India made a presentation on Indian traditions of fasting during the holy month of Ramazan. India joined the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration organized by Asia Cercle International- Fondation Pour Geneve on 11th May 2021!

The Mission under the India@75 & IDY 2021, organised the Curtain Raiser for International Day of Yoga 2021 in Berne to commence the International Day of Yoga 2021 in Switzerland and Liechtenstein 'Be with Yoga, Be at Home'. The Mission also set-up a Yoga & Ayurveda information desk to provide information on the unique healing powers of Ayurvedic products & promotion of Yoga & Ayurveda in Switzerland; 2. India@75 & International Day of Yoga 2021 in Basel, to celebrate the India@75 & IDY2021, the Missions organized a Yoga session in Basel, Switzerland .The Mission also set-up a Yoga & Ayurveda information desk to provide information on the unique healing powers of Ayurvedic products & promotion of Yoga & Ayurveda in Switzerland; 3. India@75 & International Day of Yoga 2021 in Lausanne to celebrate the India@75 & IDY2021, the Missions organized a Yoga session in Lausanne, Switzerland. India at 75 - Commemoration of 75 years of India's Independence, Berne, The Ambassador announced the commemoration of 75 years of India's Independence, in Berne in presence of Hon'ble Members of the Swiss Parliament and senior functionaries of the Swiss Federal Govt. and Govt. of Bern at India House. 6.The Mission also set-up a Yoga & Ayurveda information desk to provide information on the unique healing powers of Ayurvedic products & promotion of Yoga & Ayurveda in Switzerland; 7. India at 75 - Commemoration of 75 years of India's Independence, Berne. The Ambassador announced the commemoration of 75 years of India's Independence in an event held in Berne in presence of Chief Executives of Swiss and Indian companies and Hon'ble Member of the Swiss Parliament at India House. Ambassador invited the companies to partner in India's growth story. India @75 & 7th International Day of Yoga, Berne. The Mission under the theme India@75 and DIY 2021 organized a main event to mark the 7th International Day of Yoga in Hotel Bellevue, Berne. The Ambassador, Guest of Honor, Mayor of the City of Berne inaugurated the event. The Mission also set-up a Yoga & Ayurveda information desk to provide information on the unique healing powers of Ayurvedic products & promotion of Yoga & Ayurveda in Switzerland; 9. India @ 75 – Promotion of Indian Mango ‘Indian Mango Tasting Event’ in Berne. The Mission organised an event for the Promotion of Indian Mango ‘Indian Mango Tasting Event’ in Switzerland in Berne. Top officials from the Swiss Government, Swiss companies, Prominent guests & executives were present on the occasion & discovered details of different varieties of Indian Mangoes, during the event at India House. 10. Online Quiz to Celebrate India@75. The Mission organised various Online Quiz to commemorate 75 Years of India's Independence, on the theme 'International Day of Yoga' to Celebrate India@75.

Indian Culture & Heritage events and International Day of Yoga celebrations organised during Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations by PMI / CGI Geneva (June 01-21, 2021)

1. Mission, in association with United Nations Women's Guild (UNWG), organized a Virtual Presentation on India's Dances. A Microcosm of India's Cultural Heritage by Dr. Sonal Mansingh, MP and Legend Classical dancer; 2. A pre-IDY virtual discourse on Wellness for Wellbeing of the Humanity was organized with the participation of Sadhguru, Founder, Isha Foundation; 3. A virtual celebration of the 7th IDY was organized with the participation of IDY partners in Geneva, including Art of Living, Sahaja Yoga, Sivananda Yoga among others. PM's message on the 7th IDY was played in the beginning; 4. The Yoga App by WHO and Government of India was launched and publicized by PR to all the resident Missions in Geneva; 5. PMI Geneva co-hosted with Isha Hatha- Yoga for free 3-day online Yoga programme

India@75: As part of the commemoration of India's 75 years of Independence, the Mission planned to organize India Day in different parts of Switzerland. The fist event was held in Bern on 13 July 2021. The Mission set - up various lounges including Incredible India Lounge, Yoga & Ayurveda Lounge, Indian Handicrafts, Indian Tea & Wine, Silk Embriodery Exhibition , Make in India Lounge to promote India in Switzerland.

75th Independence Day Celebration in Switzerland

The 75th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August, 2021 at the premises of India House in Berne. The event commenced with H.E. Ambassador Monika Kapil Mohta hoisting the National Flag followed by the singing of the National Anthem by the attendees. Thereafter, the Address of the Hon’ble President of India to the Nation on the eve of the 75th Independence Day was read out by Ambassador. Ambassador then delivered her special address highlighting various themes of AKAM (Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav). The event included cultural performances by Children of the Indian diaspora and screening of special videos highlighting Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM). During the event, Ambassador Monika Kapil Mohta presented the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award medal and certificate to Dr. Shachi Gurumayum, NRI from Switzerland who received this honour for his achievements in the field of Biotech Agronomy. Due to Covid – 19 restrictions, the event was held in a hybrid format with limited physical participation. Prominent members of the Indian Diaspora and Friends of India attended the Flag hoisting ceremony at India House in Berne.

On the occasion of the visit of Minister of State for External Affairs Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi to Switzerland, Mission in association with Indo-Swiss Centre organised “Namaste Switzerland” diaspora event in Zurich on 30 September 2021 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The event was well attended by members of the Indian diaspora. At the event, MoS addressed the members of the diaspora and appreciated the efforts of Indo-Swiss Centre and welcomed the participation of diaspora in Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Release of booklet on Mahatma Gandhi on 30 September, 2021

At the “Namaste Switzerland” diaspora event in Zurich on 30 September 2021, Minister of State for External Affairs, Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi released a booklet titled “Mahatma Gandhi’s Swiss Soujourn”. The booklet was published by the Mission as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

Khadi tapestry exhibition in Geneva (29 September, 2021) and Zurich (30 September, 2021)

Mission organised ICCR sponsored Khadi tapestry exhibition by eminent artist Dr. Sangeet Gandhi in Geneva and Zurich on 29 September, 2021 and 30 September 2021 respectively as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The exhibition was based on the theme “Khadi – The Indian Essence”. In Geneva, the event was attended by prominent leaders of International Organizations based in Geneva, diplomats from various Missions, members of Indian diaspora and the local Swiss community. At Zurich, the exhibition was inaugurated by Minister of State for External Affairs Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi and was attended by leading members of the Indian diaspora in both cultural and commercial space.

“Incredible India Showcase” at Berne Fernweh Festival on 30 October, 2021

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence, the Embassy of India, Berne has actively participated in this year’s Berne Fernweh Festival on 30th and 31st Oct 2021. President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe jointly inaugurated the ‘Incredible India Showcase’ along with Hon’ble Mayor of Berne, Mr. Alec Von Graffenried on 30 October, 2021. The festival focused on the state of Rajasthan and presentations on Rajasthan Tourism & Culture, Investment Opportunities, and Mining Sector were shown during the event. Cultural performances were also organized as part of the event.

To commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence, under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Vishwa Hindi Diwas was celebrated by the Embassy on January 10, 2022. A webinar on the importance of world Hindi Day was organized as part of the celebration. The event was attended by the members of Indian diaspora. Video message of Minister of State for External Affairs Ms. Meenakashi Lekhi was screened during the event. Recitation of Hindi poems by diaspora children also formed part of the event.

The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January 2022 at the premises of India House in Berne. Handicraft and Textile products from all corners of India were on display highlighting the vibrant colours, varieties and uniqueness India is offering to the world. Celebrations of 161st Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in Berne on 07 May, 2022

Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya inaugurated the event “Tribute to Tagore”, commemorating the 161st birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Cultural performances including recitation, Rabindra sangeet, Rabindra nritya, Shrutinatok etc. were also held on the occasion, with artists from Swiss Puja, a Zurich based community organization, which has contributed to the propagation of Tagore’s works in Switzerland. An exhibition on paintings of Rabindranath Tagore was displayed on the sidelines of the event. The exhibition is a tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a great artist and a master of several literary forms. Tagore started painting relatively late in his life, but this did not prevent him from becoming one of India’s most revered modern artists. Rabindra Bhavana provided digital versions of the paintings. The event was held at Casino Berne and attended by a large gathering of Swiss politicians and officials, foreign diplomats and Indian Diaspora.

Screening of Bengali feature film “Ghare Baire” in Berne on 07 May, 2022

To commemorate the 161st birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the Mission organized the screening of Bengali feature film “Ghare Baire” based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novel, written and directed by Satyajit Ray on 07 May 2022. The movie “Ghare Baire”, released in 1985, had the freedom movement and the boycott of foreign-made goods as its backdrop. Interestingly, Herman Hesse, whose philosophical outlook was similar to Tagore’s, had written a review of the text, which introduced filmmakers to Tagore’s works.

MISSP Networking Event: Interaction with Business Community on 9th May 2022

Embassy organized a MISSP Networking Event, “Interaction with Business Community in Switzerland”, at Hotel Schweizerhof on 9th May 2022. The event was attended by Business Leaders from Swiss SMEs from different sectors such as Med-tech, Railways, Precious Metal Processing, Cyber Security, Automation, E-mobility, Logistics, Tools and Electronics. The event was focused on business and investment opportunities in India. Ambassador and Invest India emphasized the transformation of India as a global business hub and various business-friendly initiatives of the Government of India to support businesses. Few participating companies also shared their success stories in India. They also highlighted the vast and growing market size and potential for expansion.

8th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Berne, Switzerland on 21 June 2022

Embassy of India, Berne organized the 8th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Berne, Switzerland on 21 June 2022 . The theme of IDY 2022 was Yoga for Humanity. The event was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Ambassador of India to Switzerland & Liechtenstein and Mr. Alec von Graffenried, Mayor of Berne. The event was held at Waisenhausplatz, an iconic location in the center of city Berne. A unique and innovative programme, ‘The Guardian Ring’ has been envisaged for this year’s International Yoga Day, 2022. It is the first time that it has been conceptualized in the manner of a ‘Guardian Ring’ - streaming feed from different countries starting from East, the land of the rising Sun, at 3 AM IST and subsequently moving westward and Embassy of India, Berne was part of “The Guardian Ring. Yoga sessions by local yoga teachers also formed part of the 8th International Day of Yoga celebrations. The event was attended by local dignitaries, Indian diaspora, Friends of India and yoga enthusiasts from local yoga schools.

The Embassy organized 'Incredible India Festival' with special focus on the State of West Bengal at Pfaffikon, Zurich on 23 August 2022 under the State Facilitation activities abroad. Lounges of Incredible India, Make in India, Yoga and Ayurveda, Promotion of Tea and Coffee, Handicraft by Tribals of India, Khadi, etc. were set up at the venue to promote Art, Handicraft, Textiles and Home Decoration products from India. Short films on tourism from Incredible India and Investment Opportunities from Invest India showcased the emerging power of India and grabbed the attention of the audience. Presentations were made to the Swiss audience focusing on tourism, culture, industrial and technological developments and investment opportunities in the State of West Bengal. The highlight of the event was the exhibition of art and handicraft items from the State of West Bengal, followed by a cultural dance performance-Rabindranath Tagore’s “Mayar Khela”- by renowned Odissi dancer Ms. Dona Ganguly and her team. The event was attended by many guests which included diplomatic community, tour operators, business houses, cultural associations and Friends of India who enjoyed the exhibition stalls as well as the cultural performance.

स्विट्ज़रलैंड में भारतीय दूतावास द्वारा दिनांक १० जनवरी, २०२३ को विश्व हिंदी दिवस कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया । इस अवसर पर कार्यकारी राजदूत ने माननीय प्रधानमंत्री के संदेश का वाचन किया । हिंदी कविता का पाठ किया गया और सभी उपस्थित लोगो ने हिंदी में अपने परिचय दिए तथा हिंदी के प्रचार प्रसार का संकल्प लिया। Embassy of India organised World Hindi Day program on January 10, 2023 at Chancery. On this occasion, Cd’A a.i. read the message of Hon’ble Prime Minister. Hindi poetries were recited. All the persons, present in the event introduced themselves in Hindi and took a pledge to spread the use of Hindi.

On 2nd March 2023, the Embassy of India organized an event at the iconic Piazza Grande, Locarno in Switzerland, famous for hosting the “Locarno International Film Festival” and set up an exhibition of Handicraft, Woolen, Silk, and Khadi products together with Tea, Coffee and Ayurvedic herbs to promote Trade opportunities in India. Mission also set up an Incredible India Photo Gallery of Eastern and North Eastern states of India to promote the region’s rich culture, tradition and natural landscapes. City Council Member Mr. Nicola Pini and Cd’A opened the exhibition by lighting “Deep”, the traditional Indian lamp and launched the “Ayurvedic Aahar” booklet in Locarno to mark the occasion. Mr. Pini and other City Council Officials enjoyed the Incredible India Photo Gallery tour and exhibition. Guests from surrounding business houses, families and children from the city also visited the exhibition during the day. They applauded the effort of the Government of India for the various initiatives to promote inclusive growth.

Celebration of International Women’s Day at India House, Berne on 07 March 2023

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023, the Embassy of India, Berne celebrated 10 extraordinary women from various walks of life, with the most astounding and inspiring stories of achievements of these women on 07th March 2023. They shared their stories of fighting against all odds and emerging successful, inspiring everyone who follow in their footsteps, and leaving a legacy behind. Planting of Saplings by these 10 women achievers at the India House lawns in Berne also formed a part of the event

Incredible India exhibition in Neuchâtel on 9th March 2023

On 9th March 2023, the Embassy of India organized an event in the historic city of Neuchâtel in Western Switzerland and set up an exhibition focused on Incredible India, 3T and ODOP together with Tea, Coffee and Ayurvedic herbs. The Mayor of Neuchâtel, Ms. Nicole Baur, and the City Council Team visited the exhibition at the iconic "Temple du Bas" in the Old Town. Many families and guests enjoyed the exhibition during the day and were impressed by the Dokra and other Handicraft products on display.

"International Year of Millets 2023" inaugural event in Fribourg, Switzerland on 13 March 2023

On 13.03.2023, the Embassy of India inaugurated the "International Year of Millets" celebrations in Switzerland and organized an event in Fribourg, the French-speaking city on the banks of river Saane. Fribourg has been named "Swiss Food Capital 2023". Mission set up a Millets Information Corner displaying Indian Millets, Brochures, Phamphlates and Millet snacks to popularize the "Nutri Cereals" among the Swiss Audience. Deputy Mayor of Fribourg, Mr. Laurent Dietrich and Cd'A Deepak Bansal released the "International Millets Recipe Catalogue" in Switzerland to explore and promote the health benefits of "Nutri Cereals". In Addition to the general public; deputy Mayor and city council members also visited and enjoyed India's rich cultural heritage and traditions displayed through "3T", "ODOP", and "Incredible India" focused exhibition.

As a part of the celebrations of 75 years of India's Independence & 75th anniversary of India-Switzerland bilateral relations, the Embassy of India in Berne organized an event on 'Dance Forms of India' at Altdorf on 11 April 2023. Cd’A Deepak Bansal and Deputy Mayor of Altdorf H.E. Mr. Bernhard Schuler jointly inaugurated the photo exhibition. A display of Indian Book Corner and a Yoga session formed part of the event.

"Incredible India Photo Exhibition" at Torbogen, Luzern on 12 April 2023

On 12 April 2023, Embassy of India organized the "Incredible India Photo Exhibition" at the historic "Torbogen" at Bahnhofplatz in the picturesque city of Luzern, known as the "Gateway to Central Switzerland", to promote the undulating golden beaches, magnificent monuments and memorials of India. Nutri cereals, Yoga-Ayurveda-Wellness, and ODOP information desk cum products on display created a vibe to engage visitors and guests to the fascinating Indian art, craft, culture, traditions and cuisine.

Embassy of India in Berne, observed the 162nd Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at Chancery. Team India paid tributes to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his Jayanti by organizing a photo exhibition on Tagore’s paintings followed by a quiz on ‘Life of Tagore’.

Event on ‘Highlights of India’s literary richness’ at India House on 12 May 2023

As a part of the celebration of 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence and 75th Anniversary of India and Switzerland bilateral relations, the Embassy of India, Berne hosted an event on Indian Literature to promote the diverse & vibrant literary traditions of India at India House on 12 May 2023. 13 speakers enriched our knowledge of the literature of as many as 17 languages. From Panini to Rabindranath Tagore, from Kalidas to St. Thiruvalluvar, Indian literature is a treasure trove of diverse voices and perspectives. A quiz on literature was also organized during the event.

Exhibition on “Incredible India” at Porrentruy, Jura on 15 May 2023

To promote the vast richness of India’s finest architectural heritage, serene ghats, spectacular landscapes, waterfalls, beaches and national parks in Switzerland, the Embassy of India, Berne organised the "Incredible India" Exhibition on 15.05.2023, at the historic site of Cultural Office of Jura canton in Porrentruy city, which is located at the Swiss-France border. The "Incredible India" Exhibition was inaugurated with the lighting of traditional Indian lamp by Chancellor of Porrentruy, Mr. François Valley and Cd'A Deepak Bansal. Mr. Valley and other guests were mesmerised by the natural serene and richness of Indian heritage, which was presented beautifully through a photo exhibition. The Embassy of India, Berne team also set-up ‘Next Destination - Gir National Park’ Photo Corner and ‘Taj Mahal Photo Corner’, which attracted guests and passers-by to click selfies. Chancellor of Porrentruy, Mr. François Valley and Cd'A Deepak Bansal also stopped at the ‘Next Destination - Gir National Park’ Photo Corner and clicked some photos. On the sidelines of the event, Mission also set-up exhibitions to promote the initiatives launched by Govt. of India, i.e. One District One Product (ODOP), promotion of benefits of nutri-cereals ‘Millets’ – as part of International Year of Millets (IYoM 2023), Yoga and Ayurveda and promotion of Indian tea & coffee.

Launching the 09th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at Castelgrande, Bellinzona on 25 May 2023

As part of the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations (IDY), a curtain raiser yoga session was organized by the Embassy of India, Berne at Castelgrande, Bellinzona on 25 May, 2023. The event was jointly inaugurated by Charge d' Affaires Mr. Deepak Bansal & H.E. Mr. Simone Gianini, Deputy Mayor of the City of Bellinzona. The event witnessed an overwhelming response and the participants were taught the international yoga day protocol practices aimed to raise general awareness among the masses to achieve peace, harmony, and well-being through yoga practices. The main goal of IDY is to raise public knowledge about the health benefits of yoga. IDY has evolved into a widespread health movement throughout the years. IDY’s safe day-to-day Yoga practices improve physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health and well-being. The yoga protocol comprises simple yogic practices such as Tadasana, Urdhva Hastottanasana, Skandha Chakra, Uttanamandukasana, Kati Chakrasana, Ardhachakrasana, Prasarita Padottanasana, deep breathing, Nadishodhana Pranayama and Bhramari Pranayama.

Yoga can be an important tool in humanities collective desire to promote a sustainable lifestyle that is in harmony with the planet. Yoga, when applied to communities and societies, provides a way to more sustainable life. The participants were taught the Ministry of AYUSH's Common Yoga Day Protocol practices, which are extensive and comprise Prayer, Sukshma Vyayama, Yogasanas (Standing, Sitting, Prone, and Supine postures), Pranayama, Sankalpa, and Shanti Patha.

The program was inaugurated by His Excellency Ambassador designate of India to Switzerland, Mr. Mridul Kumar, Chief Guest Ambassador Erwin Bollinger, Head of Bilateral Economic Relations Division & Federal Council Delegate for Trade Agreements (SECO) and Special Guest Mr. Aditya Yellepeddi, President at City Legislative Council , Chavornay, Canton of Vaud.

At the picturesque Lake Davos, nestled in Swiss Alps, Ambassador Mridul Kumar led the International Day of Yoga - 2023 celebrations organized by Embassy of India, Berne in association with Brahma Kumaris Switzerland on 24 June, 2023. At the event, Ambassador spoke about Hon'ble PM's initiative to popularize yoga worldwide. Mr. Stefen Walser, Deputy Mayor of Davos, was the Chief Guest at the event. Ambassador Mridul Kumar led the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ celebrations in Chancery on 14 August 2023, culminating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations in Switzerland. The event included Flag hoisting, singing of national anthem, digital narration of stories of Unsung Heroes, videos showcasing ‘Meri Mitti Mera Desh’ . ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ was also observed in memory of those who lost their lives in the horrors of partition & suffered the pain of displacement.
