International Day of Yoga celebrations organised during Amrit Mahotsav Celebration by EoI, Lome (June 17-25, 2021)

1. Two online contests were held, which were open to all people in Togo. Prizes were given to winners of these contests; 2. The 7th International Day of Yoga with participation of about 100 guests was celebrated in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence; 3. During the presentation of advance copy of credentials of Ambassador to Togolese Foreign Minister (FM), a gift was presented in a jute bag with a logo of India@75, specially printed for this purpose. FM was briefed about the ongoing celebration of the 75 years of India’s independence.

15 August celebrations

Embassy of India celebrated the 75th Independence Day on 15 August. After the Flag Hoisting ceremony, Ambassador read out the excerpts of President’s Address to the Nation. In partnership with the Indian community, some cultural performances were also held to mark the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Organization of a blood camp

To mark 75 years of India’s Independence Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Embassy in partnership with the Togo chapter of World Malayali Federation (WMF), held a blood camp on 15 August 2021 wherein 25 volunteers from WMF donated blood. The event was also attended by Prof. Ahoefa Vovor, Director General of Studies, Planning and Health Information at the Ministry of Health of Togo and Dr. Feteke Lochina, Director of the National Blood Transfusion. The Togolese authorities appreciated the Embassy and the WMF for this gesture.

Embassy of India in Lome, Togo in partnership with APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) organized a virtual business interaction on October 1 between Indian and Togolese industries. 20 companies on both sides participated in the event and discussed opportunities for Indian exporters in non-Basmati rice.

Donations to a secondary school in Lama Kolide,Kara-Togo

In partnership with an Indian company in Kara, Steel Cube factory, Embassy celebrated India@75 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and donated 16 bicycles to a secondary school in Lama Kolide. Ambassador highlighted the human centric development cooperation of India. On this occasion, a gift comprising braille tablet, braille sheet, cane, and a recorder was also presented to a visually impaired student. The event witnessed participation of the Mayor of Kara, Regional Director of Education, Regional Director, village chief, large number of school students and parents, among others. The event was covered by a reputed local TV channel TVT. Ambassador was also interviewed on this occasion.

Commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Embassy of India in Lomé in partnership with Ecole Supérieure des Affaires (ESA) university organized a “Discover India” event to strengthen linkages in the field of higher education and skill development between India and Togo. To celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav #Atmanirbhar Bharat, Embassy of India in Lomé held an interactive session with six Togolese companies in ICT sector and discussed collaborative opportunities between Indian and Togolese industry. Also encouraged their participation in India-Africa ICT Alliance Business Meeting to be held by ESC on 15-16 December, 2021.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. To celebrate the Constitution Day, All Embassy officials read the preamble, followed by a virtual ceremony streamed on Embassy’s Facebook page and Youtube Channel with over 500 views, with the participation of Indian diaspora showcasing a talk by two young children from Indian diaspora on the importance of Constitution Day and excerpts from two films on "Samvidhaan: Making of the Constitution of India" and "Beating the Retreat: A Musical Dream".

A prize distribution ceremony was held in the Embassy of India on 6 December 2021 for participants of painting competition, held on 19-25 November, as part of #AKAM, to mark the Communal Harmony Campaign Week. Celebrated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and National Youth Day

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Embassy in association with Indian community in Togo, celebrated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and National Youth Day (in hybrid mode) on 12 January 2022. Diaspora Youth participated with enthusiasm and spoke on varied topics such as entrepreneurship, innovation, use of technology in education, industrial psychology and safety. Classical dance and flute performances were also attractions of the event. Prizes and certificates were given to children for winning a contest of sketch drawing of Swami Vivekananda. Certificates were given to participants also.

Rangoli competition to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Pongal

Embassy organized a Rangoli competition to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Pongal as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Members of Indian community in Togo made great efforts and used innovative ideas to make Rangolis. Rangoli made by Mrs. Shweta Girish Mahajan won the first prize, she used food grains, spices & tea powder in her Rangoli artwork, saluting the Real Heroes of India. First-ever National Day Reception to Commemorate 73rd Republic Day of India

Embassy of India in Lomé held its first-ever National Day Reception to commemorate 73rd Republic Day of India at prestigious Hotel 2 Fevrier in Lomé. Secretary General, Foreign Office, Mr. Afo Salifou represented Foreign Minister as the Chief Guest. Minister of Water and Village Hyraulics, Mr. Tiem was also present at the Reception, which was also attended by several members of diplomatic corps, representatives from National Assembly and senior functionaries from various Ministries. Embassy in partnership with TIES & SAPE Media Ltd. held first-ever India Education Fair in Lomé with participation of 10 universities from India. Higher Education Minister of Togo Prof. Wateba was the Chief Guest. Over 600 students attended the event. On the margins of India Education Fair in Lomé on 26 April 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Andhra University in India and Lomé University and Kara University in Togo to strengthen educational and skill development linkages between these institutes.

On 18 May, as part of Amrit Mahotsav, Embassy held a meeting with Togolese industry participants of IndiaSoft 2022 that was held by Electronics & Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) in March 2022. Participants were appreciative of their exposure to Indian IT products and services and they are able to establish some contacts with Indian companies. Embassy assured these participants of all help to facilitate their interactions with Indian companies in order to strengthen the trade and economic content of India-Togo bilateral relations.

On the occasion of the 8th National Handloom Day, Embassy, in association with Jérôme Creation, organized an event at the Embassy on 8 August 2022 to promote the Indian handloom industry. Ambassador Sanjiv Tandon urged the audience to wear handloom products in our day-to-day lives to support India’s weaving community. A short movie on the Indian handloom industry was also screened.

Celebration of 76th Independence Day (15 August 2022)

On the occasion of the 76th Independence Day of India, the Flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Embassy’s premises. Ambassador Sanjiv Tandon hoisted the Tiranga, the National Flag of India, and read out Hon’ble President ‘s Address to the Nation.
