A team of the High Commission visited the Monica Geingos Secondary School in Otjiwarongo and conducted a 'Student Solar Ambassador Workshop'. Over 300 school students participated in the training workshop and learnt to assemble solar lamps. 200 solar lamps were provided to the school by IIT Bombay for this workshop.
#AmritMahotsav Yoga Workshop (13-15 April, 2021)
High Commission of India organized a Yoga Workshop at St. Paul's College, Windhoek from April 13 to April 15, 2021. The students were introduced to Yoga, its meaning and purpose, and the benefits to physical and mental well-being of making Yoga a part of one's daily routine. The workshop was conducted by Ms Beatha Tangi Ntinda and saw participation of 77 school students of Grade 7 over a period of 3 days. A set of books on Yoga was also handed over by Head of Chancery Vipul Bawa to the school authorities.
#AmritMahotsav Incredible Craft Fair (22 April to 7 May, 2021)
High Commission of India, together with India-Namibia Friendship Association and in support of Namibia Craft Centre, has organised an 'India@75 Incredible India Fair' in Windhoek. The fair brings together and presents beautiful artisanal, handicraft, textile, herbal and food products from India, which are not commonly available in the Namibian market. At the exclusive media preview of the fair today, High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal, Mrs Rakhee Agrawal and General Manager of Namibia Craft Centre Ms Shareen Thude visited the various stalls and spoke to the exhibitors about their products on display. High Commissioner also thanked the India-Namibia Friendship Association for their collaboration in putting together this exhibition of Indian art, craft and other products in Windhoek.

High Commission today welcomed and hosted distinguished members of Regional Councils and Local Authorities from Hardap and //Karas regions of Namibia. High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal briefed the delegations on capacity building opportunities that India offers to Namibian people through ITEC programme, ICCR programme, as also through bilateral partnerships. High Commission gifted over 100 books and reading material to University of Namibia (UNAM) (main campus) library. Head of Chancery Vipul Bawa, in his remarks at the ceremonial hand-over, noted that these books would further enrich the libraries across different UNAM campuses with books about India, giving the students and readers more opportunities to know and learn about.

75th Independence of Day of India was celebrated at the High Commission of India in Windhoek on 15th August 2021 with great patriotic fervor and enthusiasm. With gathering restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the ceremony was streamed live on Facebook for the Indian community members and friends of India in Namibia, with only members of India-Namibia Friendship Association (INFA) and India-Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (INCCI) being present at the Chancery along with families of the High Commission officials. High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal unfurled the national flag and read out the address of Hon'ble President of India delivered to the nation on the eve of Independence Day. This was followed by a series of cultural performances including songs, dance, poems, shayari etc. Families of the High Commission officials and members of Indian community took active part in the cultural programme, expressing their patriotic emotions through different art forms.

An evening celebrating India@75 AmritMahotsav was organised at India House (Residence of the High Commissioner of India) on 15th August 2021. The event saw participation from senior ministers and officials of the Namibian government, academia, civil society and think-tanks, media and Indian community. Chief Guest for the evening was Hon. Jenelly Matundu, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia. Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Minister of Information and Communication Technology of Namibia and Hon. Verna Sinimbo, Deputy Minister of Industrialisation and Trade were the Guests of Honour. Executive Director, Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service Mr Audrin Mathe, Vice Chancellor UNAM Prof. Dr. Kenneth Matengu and Vice Chancellor NUST Dr. Erold Naomab were also present. Highlight of the evening was a special supplement on India@75 and India-Namibia relations, which was unveiled by the dignitaries. This special supplement will feature in New Era Newspaper on 16th August 2021. Namibians who participated in the online course on Mahatma Gandhi's life and philosophy, conducted in May 2021 by acclaimed Gandhian speaker Dr Shobhana Radhakrishnan, were felicitated on the occasion and were provided their course certificates. High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal handed over copies of 'India Quarterly' journal to Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga and Hon. Jennely Matundu. Hon. Dr. Mushelenga had contributed an article on Namibia's foreign policy in the journal. Famous Namibian singer Lise Ehlers mesmerised the gathering with her melodious voice.

Team India in Namibia had the honour to welcome the presiding officers of both houses of Namibian Parliament, Speaker of National Assembly Hon. Prof. Peter H. Parliamentary exchanges including the forthcoming centenary celebrations of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament of India, and matters of bilateral collaboration were discussed. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Head of Chancery Vipul Bawa and First Secretary Mohammad Afsar. High Commissioner applauded the leadership of H.E. the President and resilience of Namibian people in fighting COVID-19 and recalled the expression of solidarity in tackling the pandemic together conveyed by H.E. the President of India to H.E. Dr. Geingob earlier. Underlining the close historic ties between the two countries, he also briefed H.E. the President on new initiatives and emerging areas of bilateral collaboration, especially in the context of India's 75th Independence Anniversary commemorations.

Together with members of diplomatic corps, colleagues from Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation Namibia, media persons, ITEC and ICCR alumni, and members of Indian community, the High Commission of India marked UN International Day of Non-Violence and 152nd birth anniversary of #MahatmaGandhi at the Chancery. The gathering paid homage to Mahatma and offered him floral tributes. A special screening of famous award-winning movie "Gandhi" was organised for the guests on a big screen in Chancery's Cultural Hall Annexe. Copies of autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi, The Story of My Experiments with Truth, were also given to guests on the occasion. Earlier during the day, High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal together with colleagues and families from the High Commission planted a tree at the Chancery's gardens as a mark of respect to the great soul.

Deepak Kamath, a passionate biker from Bengaluru, India who has driven across all continents (including Antarctica) and aims to cover 75 countries this year, is currently on an adventure motorcycle trip from South Africa to Norway. He reached Namibia yesterday, riding his Bajaj Dominar 400. He called on the High Commissioner on 30 December, 2021, who welcomed him to the Chancery and conveyed his best wishes for the long and exciting journey through Africa and Europe.

On the occasion of National Youth Day, celebrated today on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, we invite the Indian Diaspora youth (between 16-35 years) in Namibia (NRIs/PIOs/OCIs) to participate in an Essay Competition on the topic - "My vision for India@2047". The word limit is 600 words. Essays could be written in either English or Hindi languages and submitted latest by 21 January 2022.

Blessed by incessant rains, the evening saw an impressive participation from senior ministers and functionaries of the Namibian Government, members of the diplomatic corps, academia, media, business groups, think-tanks, NGOs, and Indian community. Chief Guest on the occasion was Hon. Jenelly Matundu, Deputy Minister of International Relations & Cooperation. The strong cultural and people-to-people bonds between the two countries were showcased through a unique India-Namibia Fashion Show, whereby the rich traditions and diversity of Indian textiles and costumes, from distinct fabrics to unique cuts and varied Indian silhouettes were presented by beautiful Namibian models. Made-in-India Mahindra vehicles were also on display on the occasion, while the guests enjoyed “Incredible India” videos as they relished the traditional Indian delicacies.

High Commission of India hosted Namibian scholars and alumni of ITEC, ICCR and other training and capacity building programmes at a Reception at the Chancery. In his address to the gathering, High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal underscored the strength and wide-range of our bilateral development partnership programmes, and Govt of India’s commitment to further take it forward. Scholars and alumni shared their experiences of participating in such programmes and how they have benefitted in their careers. Among the guests were Vice Chancellor, University of Namibia Prof Kenneth Matengu and Vice Chancellor, Namibia University of Science and Technology - NUST Dr Erold Naomab as well. Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India Shri V. Muraleedharan virtually addressed the gathering through a video message, and also conveyed his wishes to the High Commission for the AKAM Special Days being organised in Namibia. Hon’ble Minister of State and Hon’ble Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister, Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation Namibia (MIRCO) also unveiled the new Cultural Hall of the High Commission on this occasion. Hon’ble DPM could not join as planned due to some last minute exigency and was respresented by Mr Erastus Hailwa from MIRCO. Guests rejoiced at the beautifully choreographed and presented cultural performances. Among the presentations was a special fusion of Indian and Namibian cultures, with Namibian performers wearing Indian sarees and dancing on popular local songs. This was curated and choreographed in-house by High Commission team.

High Commission of India, in collaboration with India Namibia Friendship Association - INFA, celebrated cultural traditions of India on 26 March 2022 at Stratos Rooftop Ballroom, Avani Windhoek Hotel. This was organised under the 'Promotion of Cultural ties with Diaspora' initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The event was exclusive for INFA-members and their guest families. INFA members presented mesmerising cultural performances including dance, singing, skit etc, showcasing the richness and diversity of India's culture. The programme concluded with a special dance performance by Namibian models, wearing sarees from different regions of India, on Indian and Namibian songs. This cultural-fusion, which was choreographed and prepared in-house by the High Commission team, received huge applauses from the guests.

Our law enforcement cooperation has acquired increasing salience given the fast changing nature of crime confronting our societies. Through engagement between our premier institutions such as National Forensic Science University (NFSU) of India, so far more than 50 NamPol officers have built further their technical expertise in this critical area. We had excellent discussions to deepen collaboration with NamPol and National Forensic Science Institute of Namibia, which is a regional hub of excellence in this domain.

The 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Windhoek today under the theme of “Yoga for Humanity”. In the largest Yoga gathering here so far, held as per Covid19 norms, a number of Yoga practitioners and those interested in learning it gathered at United Athletics Field, Olympia, to know the benefits of yoga and also to follow a simple Common Yoga Protocol. At this flagship event, those present included Her Worship Sade Gawanas, the Mayor of Windhoek; Hon. Richard Gaoseb, Member of Parliament and Regional Councillor of Katutura East constituency; diplomatic corps; senior Government officials; students from Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School, Katutura; mediapersons, and public from all walks of life. Event was also webcast live on media partner New Era’s social media channels. High Commissioner Prashant Agrawal highlighted the benefits of Yoga for the health and well-being of individuals and communities, especially in the context of Covid19 pandemic which has underlined the need for physical and mental fitness and boosting one’s natural immunity. Yoga is also a perfect way to tackle various lifestyle stresses and pressures. Yoga today has become one of the most powerful unifying forces in the world, a mass movement with positive influence in the lives of millions. Guests performed together some simple Yoga exercises as part of a Common Yoga Protocol, under the guidance of well-known Yoga teachers. A number of organizations provided great support to the event and our sincere thanks to them all. The United Nations General Assembly had adopted the resolution in 2014 with a record 177 co-sponsoring nations to observer 21 June every year as the International Day of Yoga. IDY is next being observed in Walvis Bay on June 20, 2022. In the run up, a number of special workshops and demonstrations have been organized under the guidance of Yoga expert Dr. Anurita Misra. She also conducts free Yoga classes at the High Commission. A special feature of the event was its eco-friendliness with no single-use-plastics used.

Indian Navy Ship INS Tarkash arrives at Walvis Bay to a warm welcome. Ship visit to further strengthen maritime cooperation between India & Namibia. Both Namibia and India have long coastlines and have the shared objectives of protecting maritime resources, ensuring maritime safety and security. Excited learners from Tutaleni School visited the ship for a detailed briefing to ignite their interest and imagination. The Commanding Officer and High Commissioner called on His Worship the Mayor of Walvis Bay who later also visited the Ship. At a reception for CO and officers hosted by High Commissioner, guests enjoyed delicacies made of Millet, in preparation of 2023 being the Year of Millet declared by the UN through a Resolution sponsored by India. INS Tarkash's extensive engagements continued on its second day in Walvis Bay, which included a call on Commander, Naval Operations, Namibian Navy, by the Commanding Officer (CO) and High Commissioner (HC), cross deck visit by Namibian Navy personnel to share our best practices, media briefing by CO and HC, and a well attended reception onboard the ship hosted by CO and HC which was attended by senior Namibian officials, Ambassadors and High Commissioners, Defence Advisors, mediapersons, members of Indian community and other distinguished guests. Tarkash's acclaimed naval band entertained the guests while they enjoyed traditional Indian hospitality. In deepening bonds of friendship and goodwill, officers of INS Tarkash planted trees at Tutaleni school in our common fight against desertification and climate crisis. The ship also held a rejuvenating Yoga session. A friendly volleyball match with Namibian Navy saw lively participation. Tarkash's acclaimed band performed to a rapt audience at the Dunes Mall in conveying thanks to people for their warmth and welcome.

Our special series on "Ayurveda: The Science of Life" began with the first session on Introduction to Ayurveda conducted by Dr. Anurita Misra. She explained to the participants the key concepts of Ayurveda, including "preserve positive health in a healthy person (Swasthasya swasthya rakshanam). the second session on Simplifying the Ayurvedic concepts like Panchamahabhuta, Tridosha, Triguna and Saptadhatu. it was the last session on special series on "Ayurveda, har din, har ghar" on "Aahaar (food), Dosha and sadrus (6 taste), conducted by Dr. Anurita Misra. Balance of Tridosha (Vaat, Pitt & Kaph) could be avoided around hundred types of disease.

Under India's lead, the United Nations has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. This unique initiative firmly brings the focus on this superfood, which has been a nutritious staple for thousands of years in India and the world over (in Namibia it is very popular as Mahangu). To promote awareness of millets, the High Commission of India has been serving dishes made of millets in all functions hosted by us, and our esteemed guests has been enjoying these very much. We are also rolling out shortly initiatives for collaboration in entire millet value chain of production, processing and distribution.

More than 600 innovators from 20+ African countries joined young Indians to showcase the magic of ideas and come up with solutions to our common challenges. India, Namibia and countries of the Global South joined hands today on the theme of ‘Energy Security and development: Road map to Prosperity’ in the Energy Ministers’ session of the ‘Voice of the Global South Summit’ being hosted by India virtually. Hon. Tom Alweendo, Minister of Mines and Energy of Namibia, called for just energy transition and laid out Namibia’s vision and strategy, encompassing traditional energy sources, renewables, and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen. Hon. Hardeep Puri, India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas briefly outlined measures taken by India to maintain energy security through diversification of supplies; increase of alternate energy sources like Bio-fuels and Ethanol; increasing Exploration and Production (E&P) footprint with focus on domestic production; and meeting energy targets through EVs & Hydrogen.

74th Republic Day of India was celebrated in Namibia with great enthusiasm and happiness by members of the Indian community, friends of India and High Commission officials and families. A salient feature of the ceremony was award of Certificates of Completion to those successfully completing 100 Hours Yoga training course organized by the High Commission recently. Hon’ble dignitaries who attended included Speaker of National Assembly; Chairperson of the National Council and the Deputy Chairperson; Minister of Information and Communication Technologies; Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources; Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services; Deputy Minister of Sports, Youth and National Service; Deputy Minister of ICT; Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism; Their Worship the Mayors of Swakopmund, Luderitz and Keetmaanshoop; Dr. Panduleni Itula, President IPC; Secretary to the Cabinet, Executive Directors and senior government officials; Ambassadors and diplomatic corps; mediapersons, academia, businesspersons, Think-tanks and NGOs, and Indian community. Guests were treated to a breathtaking cultural programme showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India, including classical, folk and popular dance forms and Yoga with a sumptuous visual feast of India as a tourist destination, including the royal state of Rajasthan. In a special feature, guests were treated to speciality Millet cuisine, in keeping with 2023 being International Year of Millets declared by the UN at India’s initiative.
