'Yoga with the Ambassadors': Event held at HCI, Port Louis on 19 June 2021 ‘Yoga for Wellness’: Celebration of the 7th International Day of Yoga in Mauritius in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Wellness at HCI, Port Louis on 21 June 2021 Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Govt. of Mauritius, in collaboration with High Commission of India organized a session on Yoga for Public Servants in the Govt. of Mauritius.

Launch of Indian Business council on 06th August 2021

Mrs. Nandini Singla, High Commissioner of the Republic of India to Mauritius, launched (6 August) the Indian Business council (IBC) at the premises of the Indian High Commission. IBC seeks to promote the commercial relationship between Mauritius, India & the African continent.

Hoisting of the National Flag of India, reading out of the President of India's address by HE Mrs. K. Nandini Singla, prize distribution to winners of various India@75 contests and cultural performance by IGCIC students and teachers at IGCIC, Phoenix. The reception was also hosted by the High Commission of India, Mauritius in the esteemed presence of Hon. President Prithvirajsing Roopun, Hon. Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and other dignitaries at the High Commission of India, Ebene commemorating the 75th Independence Day of India. Lighting up of High Commission of India, Ebene on the eve of the 75th Independence Day and UNESCO World Heritage Site Aapravasi Ghat on 15th August 2021 to commemorate the 75th Independence Day of India.

Inaugration of the first institute for Indian Culture of Arya Sabha Mauritius (ASM). The event was graced by the Hon. Foreign Minister Alan Ganoo and HE Mrs. K. Nandini Singla, High Commissioner of India. High Commissioner addressed the gathering on the occasion and handed over a harmonium and a set of Tabla to the newly inaugurated Centre, for the promotion of Indian Music.

Endemic tree planting drive on 21st August 2021

Endemic tree planting drive by Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes. The challenge is to participate in the project and plant around 500 endemic plants that are suitable for the urban environment. The Rotary Club, in collaboration with the Municipality of Quatre Bornes, invited High Commissioner to plant an Ebony tree on the outskirts of the Ebene Kovil on 21st August 2021. Also present on the occasion were the Hon. Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and CLimate Change, Hon. Kavydass Ramano; Deputy Mayor of Quatre Bornes, Mr. Ramluckhun; President and Members of the Ebene Kovil Management Committee, Mr. Dinesh Gajeelee; District Governor of Rotary District; and Mr. Shiv Jugoo, President of Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes.

Handing over ceremony of Passenger variant Donier aircraft on 13th September 2021

High Commissioner handed over a Dornier aircraft on lease from the Indian Navy to Mauritius implementing vision SAGAR. Exchanging of contract for purchase of a new dornier aircraft realised under the $100 million Line of Credit.

Cycle Rally - ‘Pédaler en Sécurité’ organised by the High Commission of India and Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Government of Mauritius as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and 152nd birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 09th October 2021 at Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka. Enthusiastic participation in the Cycle Rally, led by Hon. VPM Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun; Hon. Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports & Recreation, Stephan Toussaint; and High Commissioner Mrs. K. Nandini Singla. Around 70 participants, including 20 from the High Commission of India, and 50 registered cyclists and officials participated.

60th Foundation Day Celebrations of Bank of Baroda

High Commission of India hosted the 60th Foundation Day celebrations of Bank of Baroda, which has been present in Mauritius since 1962. Hon. Minister Mahen Seeruttun, Hon. Minister Kavy Ramano, Governor of Bank of Mauritius & other dignitaries graced the occasion. Five Million + Ridership of India assisted Flagship Metro Project in Mauritius on 28th October 2021

As part of AKAM, High Commission of India, in collaboration with Metro Express Ltd, organized an event to celebrate Five Million Ridership Milestone event of the India-assisted Metro Express Project. The event was graced by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Land Transport & Light Rail as the chief guest and attendees include Senior Officials from the Ministry of Land Transport, Metro Express Ltd, Prime Minister's Office, Alliance Media (Media partner for Metro) and Media. Speaking at the occasion, Minister Ganoo noted that the Metro Express Project is the flagship project of India-Mauritius relationship and conveyed gratitude of the Government of Mauritius to India for supporting them in implementing a landmark infrastructure project that is fast changing the transport landscape of Mauritius and widely accepted by Mauritians as a safer, greener and faster mode or transportation. As part of the event, frequent passengers, best performing Train pilots, and support staffs were rewarded by prize/memento.

Inaugural lecture on "Space: New Frontiers for Cooperation" on 28th October 2021

As part of the efforts to highlight India's achievements in the field of Science among Mauritian nationals, especially students and academia, Mission, in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, launched a Lecture Series on science. Mr. Shantanu Bhatawdekar, Scientist & Director, Earth Observation Applications & Disaster Management Support Programme Office (EDPO), ISRO delivered the inaugural lecture on the theme "Space: New Frontier for Cooperation". Mr. Bhatawdekar briefed India's achievements in the field of space and benefits of space applications for common people. Around 80 people, primarily University students, School Children, Scientific community attended the inaugural event.

Commemoration of short refit of CGS Barracuda on 27th October 2021

High Commission of India in collaboration with Prime Minister's Office organized an event to commemorate the successful completion of the Short Refit of the National Coast Guard Ship Barracuda at GRSE, Kolkata. The event was graced by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Land Transport & Light Rail as the chief guest and attendees include Senior Officials from the Ministry of Defence, Mauritius Police Force, other Ministries and Media. Speaking at the occasion, Minister Alan Ganoo profusely thanked India for undertaking and completing the Short Refit despite the then prevailing second wave of COVID and lockdowns in India. He also acknowledged India's continued support to Mauritius for various developmental assistance initiative and placed on record the sincere gratitude from the Government of Mauritius. Approx. 80 people attended the programme in view of the prevailing sanitary restrictions in Mauritius due to COVID -19 pandemic.

India-Mauritius Arts Conclave 2021

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India organized “Art Conclave -2021”- Live paintings along with live celestial tune of Mridang , Vocal and Flute (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotasav), celebrating the essence of the India and Mauritius art and culture.The concept of the program was to depict the significance of rich and wide Indian culture and its art form.The program began with divine sound of Mridang by Shri Kumar Shubhashish Pathak accompanied by vocal teacher Mrs. Bidisha Hazra and flute Shri Krishen Manaroo. IGCIC Teachers presented the precious gems of Indian classical music in live paintings. The chief guest of the program was honorable Deputy High Commissioner Shri Janesh Kain and other dignitaries Shri Navin Gulati and Shri Balwant Thakur, Director of IGCIC were also present.

Constitution Day 2021 was celebrated at High Commission of India on 26th November, 2021 at 12:30 pm. The Acting High Commission Shri Janesh Kain was the Chief Guest of the event, he read the preamble of Constitution of India with the children invited for the event.The Acting High Commissioner also emphasized on the importance of knowing about the true spirit of Constitution of India, he also explained Indian Constitution to the guest including children.

Flavours of India- Food Festival

Flavours of India with Diwali Celebration was organized by Indian High Commission Women’s Association in association with Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture on 31st October, 2021 at IGCIC, Foyer. Foyer was decorated with colourful clothes, ribbons, lights, diyas and flowers. Women of IHCWA showcased/prepared the food of different States of India on India’s map. Her excellency, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. Nandini K Singla graced the evening with her presence and appreciated every woman of IHCWA for making beautiful map with different food.

On the occasion of 66th Death Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on 6th December 2021 and as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India, Mauritius observed the Mahaparinirvana Divas. A short film by Dr Ambedkar International Centre and Dr Ambedkar Foundation 'Panchteerth' was screened on this occasion.

Handing over ceremony of trailer mounted pumps and LPG fired human incinerators

The High Commission of India in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, organised a handing over ceremony for the supply of 13 Trailer mounted water pumps and 16 LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) fired Human Incinerators on 21st December 2021 at the Coromandel Fire Station, Mauritius with limited invitees (45 persons) on account of prevailing COVID related health protocols. The event is aligned to the Amrit Mahotsav theme of Achievements@75. Mayors and Chairpersons of Municipal Councils and District Councils, Officials from Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services, Senior Officials from Government of Mauritius, Mauritius Police Force, Media and representatives from Indian companies were invited for the event. The equipment is expected to augment the capacities of Mauritius fire & rescue service and the local Councils in effectively discharging their duties.

Youth Delegates for Republic Day Camp 2022

The High Commission of India, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation of the Government of Mauritius organized an event on January 6,2022 at Cote dOr National Sports Complex to present the 10 youth delegates who shall represent Mauritius at the NCC Youth Exchange Programme 2022 (unfortunately cancelled later due to the Covid-19 situation in India). The event was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Hon. Alan Ganoo, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Hon. Stephan Toussaint, and High Commissioner Mrs. K. Nandini Singla. The dignitaries addressed the youth delegates and encouraged them to make the most of their visit to India.

National Youth Day 2022

High Commission of India, Mauritius in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC), celebrated the National Youth Day on 12th January, 2022. Mrs. K. Nandini Singla, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The cultural program was presented by IGCIC Teachers, students and local musicians. It was based on inspirational songs & music of India. Dr. Ved Raman Pandey, ICCR Hindi Chair delivered his lecture on ‘Bharat ke Aprajay Yuva Shakti ke Prateek’. The major highlight of the event was a demo kabbadi match of its own kind which was organized to popularize this traditional game of India. All the participants including young kabbadi players were honoured on the occasion. Exhibits including booklets, stickers, pictures and posters depicting Swami Ji’s philosophy were displayed in the Multi-purpose Hall of the Mission. This material was distributed to the audience who had come to attend the National Youth Day organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture. The material was donated by the Rama Krishna Mission Center in Vacoas, Mauritius for free distribution.

Celebration of Makar Sankranti Festival

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, High Commission of India, Mauritius and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Mauritius in association with Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temple Federation organized a mega event at Roche Noir Public Beach, Mauritius in connection with the Makar Sankranti celebrations on 14th January 2022. The event featured Hawan, Bhajan recital, Surya Puja, Rangoli design making and Kite flying. The event concluded with offering of maha prasada to the invited guests. On the occasion eminent scholars viz President Mr. Bhojraj Ghoorbin, President, Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temple Federation (MSDTF) and Mr. Seepoojuhn Lallbeeharry, Secretary General, Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temple Federation (MSDTF) spoke at length about the importance of celebration of Makar Sankranti. While speaking on the occasion Mr. Balwant Thakur, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) said that this festival is celebrated as this day sun transits into Makar Rashi (Capricorn Zodiac). This day also marks the beginning of the auspicious Uttrayan. Makar Sankranti is an ideal illustration of solidarity of diversity in India as each region celebrates this day in a different way.

Republic Day Celebrations 2022

The programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) took place in the evening of 26th January 2022 which was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, the Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Vice Prime Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic corps and other high personalities in Mauritius. The event took place in the premises of High Commission of India, Mauritius. The Hon’ble PM of Mauritius unveiled a replica of the ‘Ashoka Stambh’ at the new Chancery premises. An exhibition was also held showcasing the Mauryan empire, emperor Ashoka & Ashoka pillars in India & Abroad. The teachers and students of Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC), Phoenix presented Ganesha Stuti, dance performance and fusion instrumental music featuring Indian and western instruments on this occasion.

Launch of Weekly Radio Program 'Darshan'

As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), in collaboration with the High Commission of India, has started a weekly radio program 'Darshan' which was launched by High Commissioner Mrs. K. Nandini Singla on 5th February 2022 at MBC (Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation), Mauritius.The program will be aired on Radio Mauritius and Taal FM every Saturday from 2.15pm to 3.15 pm for 28 weeks, focussing on the geographical location, history, language, literature & culture of each State of India. The program also focuses on the uniqueness of each of the 28 States of India.

Celebrating 2 years of commercial operation of Metro Express Project

As part of AKAM, High Commission of India, in collaboration with Metro Express Ltd, organized an event on 10th February 2022 at Depot, Richelieu, Mauritius to celebrate 2 years of commercial operations and achievement of 06 Million Passengers Milestone of the India-assisted Metro Express Project. Commemorating the occasion, a Metro train wrapped with pictures showcasing India-Mauritius bilateral relationship and various high-profile developmental assistance projects undertaken by India in Mauritius was launched for service. The event was graced by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Land Transport & Light Rail as the chief guest and attendees included Senior Officials from the Ministry of Land Transport, Metro Express Ltd and Media. Speaking at the occasion, Minister Ganoo highlighted the collaboration between Indian and Mauritius in the context of 75 years of India's independence as well as of establishment of bilateral relationship between India and Mauritius. As part of the celebration, the winner of the painting contest, launched during the celebration of Five Million Passengers Milestone, was honoured with provision of prize money of MUR 10,000 by the High Commissioner.

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Mission widely publicized the ‘Thanjavur Utsavam’ on social media platforms. The 3-day event celebrating the history and heritage of Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu included an extravaganza of dance, literature, drama and Music journey from Sangam to Modern period.

New Frontiers: A Programmer on Renewable Energy

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Mission widely publicized "New Frontiers: A Programmer on Renewable Energy", organized by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India to celebrate India's remarkable journey in the field of new and renewable energy. Webinars titled," Women in RE - Call for Action" and " Role of ISA in facilitating Energy Transition" were also given publicity.

Talk Show on Ayurveda

A Talk Show on Ayurveda was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India, Mauritius at IGCIC Seminar Hall on 23rd February 2022 presenting Dr. Ish Sharma, Ayurveda Chair of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India at University of Mauritius. Around 30 Ayurvedic doctors attended this talk show.

' Study in India ' Conclave

In an effort to globalize Indian Higher Education, a conclave on " Study in India " (an initiative by EdCIL (India) Ltd. under the Ministry of Education, Government of India) was organized in New Delhi and streamed online for viewers globally. Mission gave wide publicity to the event on social media platforms.

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India, Mauritius organized yoga workshop by Ms. Preeti Singh on 25th February, 2022 at 10:00 am. This workshop was on how to boost immunity and fight with COVID through Yoga.

Mission widely publicized the month-long quiz on ‘Nuclear Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’ being organized by Embassy of India, Vienna in partnership with Department of Atomic Energy. It was launched on National Science Day- 28th Feb 2022. Participants were encouraged to join & win exciting prizes every week.

Celebration of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Week

High Commission of India, Mauritius celebrated Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Week from 07th to 12th March 2022 highlighting the greatness of India, Unity in Diversity through the lens of Indian Cuisine, much loved street food, various dance forms, music, multi-lingualism, customs and culture of India. Social media posts were uploaded on each day during the week, highlighting these aspects.

Concert in tribute to singer Late Lata Mangeshkar

A concert in tribute to Lata Mangeshkar was organized by High Commission of India & Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Mauritius in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Institute, GOPIO International, Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and Mauritius Film Development Corporation at the Multipurpose Hall of High Commission of India, Ebene. Honourable Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius, was the Chief Guest in the programme. Lady Sarojini Jugnauth was the Guest of Honour in the programme. Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage and other eminent personalities were also present on the occasion. It was a musical concert as tribute to Lata Mangeshkar ji, the legendary Indian singer of universal acclaim.

Launch of Videoseries showcasing testimonials from ITEC beneficiaries

Hon'ble Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Sh. Teeruthraj Hurdoyal and High Commissioner of India, Mauritius jointly launched a video series that will showcase testimonials from Mauritian ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation) beneficiaries and benefits of the programme. ITEC is a demand-driven, response oriented programme that focusses on addressing the needs of developing countries through innovative technological cooperation between India and the partnering nation.

Inaugration of AtmanirbharBharat Corner

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, High Commissioner Mrs. K. Nandini Singla inaugurated the AtmanirbharBharat Corner which has been setup at India in Mauritius (High Commission of India, Port Louis) with products received from Tribes India. Inauguration of eVBAB Learning Centre at Open University of Mauritius

The e-Vidya Bharti Arogya Bharti (e-VBAB) Learning Centre was inaugurated, by the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, in Réduit, during a ceremony jointly organised by the Open University of Mauritius and the High Commission of India. On that occasion, certificates were awarded to Mauritian graduates under the e-VBAB project.The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs K. Nandini Singla, the Director-General of the Open University of Mauritius, Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, and other personalities were present at the inauguration ceremony. In her address, VPM Dookun-Luchoomun highlighted that the Learning Centre is called upon to build the capacity of Mauritians who will be following online courses dispensed by some top-notch Indian Universities.

Celebration of ICCR Foundation Day 2022

In this programme the INDIA Alumni Logo & Portal (Clicking of Button) was launched by the Hon’ble Minister of State, MEA, Govt. of India. On this occasion, a cultural Programme of music and dance here in Mauritius was presented by the teachers and students of Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Mauritius : ICCR Foundation Day 2022 was celebrated in the presence of Hon’ble Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun as the Chief Guest.

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High commission of India, Phoenix conducted Six one-week music and dance workshops which were open for all age groups from 6 to 12, 13 to 20 and then 20+ for the holistic development for the students from 23rd April 2022 to 28th April, 2022.

Exhibition of Indian Cartoons

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix in collaboration with High Commission of India, Mauritius organized Exhibition of Indian Cartoons on 5th May, 2022 live on Facebook for the first time. 482nd Birth Anniversary of Maharana Pratap

Acting High Commissioner of India to Mauritius Janesh Kain participated in the ceremony marking the 482nd birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap at Bel Village, Port Louis. Minister of Arts & Cultural Heritage, Hon. Avinash Teeluck and Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Hon. Soomilduth Bholah also graced the event.

Children Theatre Project

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix in collaboration with High Commission of India, Mauritius started a joint venture with Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Govt. of Mauritius on 12th May, 2022. It was inaugurated by Mr. Avinash Teeluck the Honourable Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Government of Mauritius. The Children Theatre Workshop is being conducted by Mr. Balwant Thakur, Director, IGCIC on every Thursday and Saturday. The duration of this project is six months. Around thirty five children are taking part in this workshop and getting trained through this children theatre project. The children theatre project is aimed at creating a new children theatre movement in Mauritius in which 20 (twenty) new Directors nominated by the Government of Mauritius will be trained in a process of workshop in which 30 children are being trained for a theatre production. These 20 Directors will later be given the opportunity to produce 20 different children theater productions in different parts of Mauritius. Thus the project will culminate with the production and staging of 20 new plays by children representing the entire length and breadth of Mauritius.

Sahitya Samvaad Goshthi 2022

Sahitya Samvaad Goshthi was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture in collaboration with High Commission of India, Mauritius on 21st May, 2022 in association with Sahitya Samvaad Samiti, World Hindi Secretariat, and Aapravasi Ghat, Mauritius at Aapravasi Ghat, Mauritius. Mrs. Kiran Chuttoo-Jankee, Researcher at Aapravasi Ghat shared the important information about Aapravasi Ghat with the children. She told the story how the indentured labourers arrived from India at Aapravasi Ghat to work in sugar plantations of Mauritius and how Aapravasi Ghat became the world heritage site by UNESCO. She took the participating children around the Aapravasi Ghat and explained in detail each monument of the complex. A question/answer session was also organized on the occasion in which each query was ably answered by Mrs. Kiran Chuttoo-Jankee. Smt. Anju Ghuruburrun, Coordinator Sahitiya Samvaad and Smt. Sunita Pahuja, Second Secretary Hindi & Culture, High Commission of India were also present on the occasion.

The World Day of Cultural Diversity 2022

The World Day of Cultural Diversity 2022- A blend of major Indian classical dances by IGCIC Kathak Teacher and local Mauritian artists was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India, Mauritius on 21st May 22 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of IGCIC. The program was conceptualized by Kathak Teacher Mrs. Rochana Desai Lukea Gopaul in the series of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotasav. This was a beautiful programme depicting the 3 styles of Indian classical dances prevailing in Mauritius; Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi which mesmerized the audience. Each dance item portrayed its unique culture and tradition related to its style. It was appreciated by all. It was telecasted on the National news as well. Each artist was interviewed individually to share his/her views on the World Cultural Diversity Day. All the participants got felicitated by Director IGCIC Shri Balwant Thakur.

TABLA Samagama

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India organized “TABLA Samagama”- A program of Indian classical instrumental music group Tabla Recital by Shri Kumar Shubhashish Pathak & students of IGCIC in the series of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The concept of the program was to present new repertoire of Tabla department and also to present the rich and wide Indian music traditions in Mauritius. The program started with the lightning of the lamp by distinguished guests followed by the welcome address by Shri Balwant Thakur Director IGCIC. The recital began with Stuti which described the purity of the Taal by Shri Kumar Shubhashish Pathak & his disciples and was accompanied by Mr. Ashvin Hanshley on Sarangi. Shri Pathak and his students presented the precious gems of Darbhanga Gharana, rare compositions and the intricacies of rhythm. The Chief Guest of the program was Mr. Navin Charan Managing Director, Indian Oil, Mauritius. Everyone enjoyed the mesmerizing divine sound of Tabla and Sarangi with great enthusiasm. At the end, all participants got felicitated by the Chief Guest in appreciation to their magnificent performance.

STEM WEEK

As part of AKAM, High Commission of India, in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre organized the India-Mauritius STEM Week from 31 May to 04 June 2022, to showcase India's achievements in the field of science as well as ongoing collaboration between India and Mauritius in those fields. Space, Avionics, High Speed Train and Hydrography were the four identified themes for the Exhibition and various entities from both countries, including Indian Space Research Organisation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Metro Express Limited, Larsen & Toubro, RITES, Mauritius Police Force, Ministry of Education, Tertiary Ministry of Housing and Land Use Planning supported in curating and organizing the exhibition. The event was a huge success with more than 1500 school students, along with family members, visiting 5-day Science Exhibition that portrayed strong bilateral cooperation in the field of Science and Technology. As part of the event, various activities like webinars, science shows, hands on activities, treasure hunts, etc., took place. The event was officially launched on 01 June 2022 by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun and the Acting High Commissioner Mr. Janesh Kain.

Cycle Rally 2022

A cycle rally was organized by the Ministry of Youth, Empowerment, Sports and Recreation of the Government of Mauritius in collaboration with the High Commission of India, Mauritius, on the occasion of World Bicycle Day as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Hon. Stephan Toussaint, Minister of Youth, Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Hon. Bobby Hureeram, Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Hon. Kavi Doolub, MP and Acting High Commissioner of India to Mauritius participated in the rally that included planting of saplings along the route to mark the World Environment Day.

96th Foundation Day

Hindi Pracharini Sabha, Mauritius, in collaboration with the Indian High Commission, a grand function was organized to celebrate its 96th Foundation Day along with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr. Prithviraj Singh Rupan ji was the Special Guest and the Indian High Commissioner Mrs. Nandini Singla ji was the Chief Guest. A book on a Mauritian Hindi Author, a compilation by an Indian Author was also released on this occasion.

Celebration of Yoga Day organized by Human Service Trust, Mauritius

Yoga sessions organized by Human Service Trust to celebrate International Day of Yoga 2022 in collaboration with the High Commission of India as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Around 40 Yoga Practitioners including Ayurvedic Doctors participated.

Sahitya Samvaad Goshti 2022

Sahitya Samvaad Goshti, (Baat Kavita ki). The participants included 3 youth who recited the 3 famous Hindi poets of Chhayawadi youth, and 2 adults- one of whom is the production manager of Radio program at MBC and the other being an established Hindi Sahityakar- Smt Kalpana Lalljee. They spoke at length on Hindi Kavita starting from Bharatindu yug till Adhunik Kavita.

'Yoga With Nature' Session

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix in collaboration with the High Commission of India kick started off 8th International Day of Yoga with “Yoga with Nature“ session at Pont Natural, Mauritius on 4th June 2022. As the name suggests, Pont Naturel, which literally means natural bridge, is famous because of the natural bridge formed by the powerful waves crashing against the rocks that once stood as a wall and hence created a bridge. The bridge is supported by hanging cliffs on the left and right and offers spectacular views. There were 20 Yoga Enthusiast who participated in the session.

‘Coronation Day’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture in collaboration with High Commission of India organised ‘Coronation Day’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on 6th June, 2022 at Maharashtra Bhawan in Association with Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation. Shivaji Maharaj was formally crowned as the Chhatrapati (emperor) of his realm at Raigad in Maharashtra on 6th June, 1674 for the first time. The day (6th June) is celebrated every year as ‘Coronation Day’ of Shivaji Maharaj. It was a symbolic function and to mark this occasion the acting High Commissioner of India Shri Janesh Kain garlanded the burst of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Maharashtra Bhawan.

Yoga Session for Children

In commemoration with 8th IDY celebration a special yoga session for the children was conducted in the IGCIC Multipurpose Hall. Considering COVID restrictions we allowed only 32 children who actively participated in the session. The session comprised simple Yogic Postures ,Breathing techniques and relaxation methods which helps the children to keep their body fit and mind calm.

Yoga session at Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius

An exclusive yoga session was conducted Yoga For Awareness for the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius for students and faculty members. There are around 50 people who participated for the event. Director IGCIC gave a lecture on Significance of Yoga in Present context followed by a yoga demonstration session by IGCIC Teacher for Indian Culture. Faculty members and students explained their keen interest to have regular Yoga sessions at MGI.

Yoga session for corporates

In order to improve the productivity of the corporates, an exclusive yoga session conducted as a workshop for LIC officials. There were 30 employees participated for the workshop. A technique of Desktop Yoga conducted to generate interest among the employees.

Organizing Yoga session at High Commission of India

It was a memorable experience of conducting the fifth event of the series on 18th June in the High Commission of India. The Chief Guest on the occasion was HE Dr. Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness. HE Mrs. K Nandini Singla felicitated the Chief Guest and Mr. Janesh Kain Dy. High Commissioner welcomed the gathering. The session started with Yoga Prayer then continued with loosening practices which was conducted by Mrs. Sangeeta, Pranayama session by Mr. Praveen Kumar and Asanas by Ms. Sowmya (TIC). As the covid restrictions are still on for public gathering the entry was restricted to 50 persons.

Yoga at Ramayana Centre, Mauritius

The theme of this year's Yoga Day celebrations is 'Yoga for Humanity‘ keeping this in mind, a special session in Ramayana Sabha on Yoga for Harmony was performed at Ramayana Centre, Mauritius . The session focussed on breathing and meditation so that the practitioners can get the feel of calmness in the body and mind.

Yoga session at Arya Sabha, Mauritius

A Breathing and meditation practice was conducted in Arya Sabha, Mauritius to boost the immune system. The practice of Pranayamas like kapalbhati, anulom vilom, bhastrika, samavriti, ujjayi, udgeet was also conducted. Meditation techniques like IRT (Instant Relaxation Technique) QRT (Quick Relaxation Technique) DRT (Deep Relaxation Technique) were also conducted.

Celebration of International Day of Yoga at Aapravasi Ghat, Port Louis

The event was organized on 21-06-2022 on International Day of Yoga at the Apravasi Ghat, The UNESCO World heritage site, Port Louis, Mauritius. Her Excellency the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius Mrs K. Nandini Singla ji delivered the welcome speech. In her speech she conveyed her gratitude to the Government of Mauritius for promoting Yoga in Mauritius. This was followed by a short musical & dance performance. The President of the Republic of Mauritius, H.E. Prithvirajsing Roopun, GCSK, was the Chief Guest of the event. The concluding session and the most awaited session was the practice of Common Yoga Protocol by the Yoga Instructor at IGCIC.

Sahitya Samvaad Goshthi- July 2022

Sahitya Samvaad Goshthi was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix and High Commission of India, Mauritius in association with Sahitya Samvaad Samiti, World Hindi Secretariat and Hindi Writer Association at the Arya Sabha, Maharishi Dayanand Street, Port Louis, Mauritius for the month of July, 2022. The subject of the Sahitya Samvaad was ‘Kavi Sammelan’. On this occasion Dr. Sarita Boodhoo, President of Bhojpuri Association, Dr. Madhuri Ramdhari, from World Hindi Secretariat, Smt. Sunita Pahuja on behalf of High Commission of India and the respected members of the Hindi Writer Association were present and a poet conference was organized.

GURU PURNIMA event 2022

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India organized an event 'GURU PURNIMA' on Wednesday 13th July, 2022 IGCIC Auditorium, Phoenix. On this occasion IGCIC’s Kathak, Vocal and Tabla teachers along with their students performed and mesmerized the audience with their performance. The Deputy High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Shri Vimarsh Aryan was the Chief Guest on this occasion. There were around 300 persons in the audience and it was documented by MBC (Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation) and MFDC(Mauritius Film Development Corporation).

Organizing of Guru Purnima event by Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temple Federation

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temple Federation organized an event on the occasion of 'Guru Purnima' at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC). Hon'ble Vice Prime Minister of Republic of Mauritius, Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun was the Chief Guest at the occasion. Various Ministers, Members of Parliament, and other government dignitaries were present. Mrs. Sunita Pahuja, Second Secretary represented the High Commission of India.

Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration by the Human Service Trust, Mauritius

The Human Service Trust, Mauritius celebrated ‘Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ along with Guru Pujan and Shrawani Maha Yaj, chanting melodious Ramayan. Mr. Sharvanand Ramkaun, Parliamentary Private Secretary and his spouse graced the function. Mrs. Sunita Pahuja, Second Secretary represented the High Commission of India at the event.

Launch of Hindi Magazine, Vasant- a children's special issue journal

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a big event was conducted at Mahatma Gandhi Institute(MGI), Moka, Mauritius by the High Commission of India and members of MGI. From the Institute's creating writing and publishing department, the famous Hindi Magazine, Vasant- a children's special issue journal was launched on this occasion. A colourful cultural show by students of 'Baithkas' was also organized. Mr. Ankush Kapoor, First Secretary represented the High Commission of India and the Director General of MGI, Mr Rajcoomar Rampertab graced the event.

‘Dhaaga Dosti Ka’ – Indo-Mauritius Fashion Utsav

The programme ‘Dhaaga Dosti Ka’ – Indo-Mauritius Fashion Utsav under Celebrations of India’s 75 years of independence organized by Indian High Commission Women’s Association in association with IndoMoris Sarees Speak and in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture with the support of the High Commission of India on 29th July, 2022 at the IGCIC Auditorium. The event was graced by Vice Prime Minister Mrs. Leela Devi Luchoomun Dookhun, Foreign Minister Mr. Alan Ganoo, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius Mrs. K. Nandini Singla and various other dignitaries. The event showcased traditional costumes (IMSS), bridal attire (IHCWA) and dances of different states of India. Miss Universe Mauritius 2022, Alexandrine Belle Etoile, was invited as a Special Guest to encourage the participants.

Sahitya Samvaad Goshthi September 2022

Sahitya Samvaad Goshthi was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India, Mauritius on 3rd September 2022 in association with Sahitya Samvaad Samiti, World Hindi Secretariat and Mauritius Arya Ravived Pracharini Sabha at the Arya Sabha, Port Louis, Mauritius for the month of September, 2022. The programme featured discourses on Hindi movement in Mauritius to mark the Celebrations of Hindi Day. The subject of the Sahitya Samvaad was ‘Hindi Divas Par Charcha’. On this occasion Ms. Shashi Dhukon, Production Manager from Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, Mauritius and Smt. Sarita Boodhoo, President of Bhojpuri Speaking Union, Mauritius were present. Smt. Sunita Pahuja, Second Secretary Hindi & Culture represented High Commission of India in the event.

INSV Tarini

The crew of Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini were hosted by the High Commission of India prior to undertaking the maiden solo circumnavigation of the globe by an Indian Navy Woman Officer. Six crew members, including three female officers, participated in the expedition of a sailing voyage from Goa to Port Louis, Mauritius aboard the INSV Tarini on 20th August 2022. The High Commissioner of India to Mauritius wished the courageous crew “Fair Winds and Following Seas” for this pioneering initiative that is a matter of great pride for all Indians.

Commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti 2022

The programme ‘Gandhi Ji Ke Priya Bhajan’ was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix and High Commission of India at IGCIC on 2nd October 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, presenting Gandhi ji’s favourite Bhajan in his revered memory by IGCIC Vocal Teacher and his students. On this occasion the awards in two categories were given (i) Swachhata Pakhwada 2022 (online Painting Competition) and (ii) Poster & Slogan Making Competition for Children (in connection with International Day of Yoga 2022). The High Commission of India and IGCIC also conducted cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti with a focus on Swachhta campaign.

‘Aap Hamare Hain Kaun’ - a play in Hindi, French Creole and English was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India, Phoenix in collaboration with Ministry of Arts & Cultural Heritage, Govt. of Mauritius at IGCIC auditorium on 9th October 2022. The Children Theatre Workshop was being conducted by Mr. Balwant Thakur, Director, IGCIC on every Thursday and Saturday whose inauguration was done by Mr. Avinash Teeluck the Honourable Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Government of Mauritius on 12th May, 2022 at IGCIC Auditorium . The duration of this project was six months. Around thirty five children were taking part in this workshop and got trained through this children theatre project. The occasion was graced by the Deputy High Commissioner of India and the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Government of Mauritius.

'Mehfil-e-Naat' programme 2022

On the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and the High Commission of India, Phoenix organized a programme ‘Mehfil-e-Naat’ in collaboration with Urdu Speaking Union, Mauritius featuring Naatkhawaan Qari Gaus Mohammad on Wednesday, 12th October 2022 at IGCIC. Former Vice President of Republic of Mauritius Mr. Rauf Bunndhun, Deputy High Commissioner of India Mr. Vimarsh Aryan, President of Urdu Speaking Union Mr. A Dustmahomed, Vice Chairman of Urdu Speaking Union Mr. Fayaz Ali Mohamudally and others graced the occasion.

Ayurveda Day 2022 was organized by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, High Commission of India in collaboration with the Association of Ayurvedic physicians at Belvedere, Mauritius on 19th October 2022. Nuckchedy, Ayurvedic Physicians, Acting High Commissioner Sh. Vimarsh Aryan from High Commission of India and others graced the event. The event included the inauguration of a Dhanvantri Ayurvedic Garden and plantation of a Giloye plant. The Secretary of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India also virtually participated and delivered a video message during the event. Acting High Commissioner highlighted the need of Ayurveda and emphasized on the shared responsibility of taking Ayurveda to the world community. The Hon'ble Minister thanked the Government of India in setting up of the AYUSH Centre of Excellence in Mauritius in collaboration with the Government of Mauritius.

Diwali 2022 celebrations

‘Festival of Lights’ – an exclusive event on the occasion of Diwali was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and the High Commission of India on 22nd October,2022 at IGCIC Auditorium. After the cultural performances, 75 diyas were lit by children at the Foyer of IGCIC to mark the 75 years of India’s Independence and a fire works display was also organised by the Indira Gandhi Centre and High Commission of India. The occasion was held at IGCIC.

'Le Salon du Pret-a-Partir'

High Commission of India participated in the 3-day tourism fair 'Le Salon du Pret-a-Partir' held at Swami Vivekanand International Convention Centre in Mauritius. Popular tourist destinations of India were showcased and information provided to the visitors. In addition to this, stalls also generated awareness regarding Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas 2023.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2022

High Commission of India celebrated the 'Festival of Unity' on the occasion of 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2022' The commemorative event included screening a short film on Sardar Patel, Iron Man of India. The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) Forum

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Mauritius and India, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development and the Economic Development Board Mauritius in collaboration with the High Commission of India hosted ‘The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) Forum’ on 13th September 2022 at Le Meridien, Pointe aux Piments, Mauritius. The Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius officially launched the Forum in the presence of Hon. Alan Ganoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Mauritius, Dr. the Hon. Renganaden Padayachy, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Republic of Mauritius and High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K. Nandini Singla. Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Government of India, delivered a video message on the occasion. Golden Melodies of Bollywood

The programme Golden Melodies of Bollywood was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India at IGCIC on 17th September 2022 in the series of Aazadi Amrit Mahotsav by presenting Classic songs of Bollywood in the revered memory of the legendary singers such as Manna Dey, Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosley, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi etc. which were presented by IGCIC Teachers and Mauritian Artists. The program was graced with the presence of His Excellency the former Vice President of Republic of Mauritius Mr. Barlen Vyapoory and His Excellency the former Vice President of Republic of Mauritius Mr. Raouf Bundhun and other important dignitaries. The program was well documented by Mauritius Film Development Corporation, broadcasted live on the official Facebook page of IGCIC and was later telecasted by the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation in a series of three programmes.

Celebrations of 75th Anniversary of India's Independence

Northern Artists Association organized an event to mark Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the celebrations of the 75th Anniversary of India's Independence, on 23rd September 2022 at Island view Garden, Petit Raffray, Mauritius. H.E. Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius graced the occasion as Chief Guest. High Commissioner of India to Mauritius Mrs. K. Nandini Singla attended the programme, which was full of fervor and colours of patriotism. Honourable Ministers and Members of Parliament were also present on the occasion.

Garba Dance 2022

Mega 'Garba Dance' was organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture(IGCIC), Phoenix and High Commission of India at IGCIC Campus on 30th September 2022 on the occasion of Navratri under 75th years of India’s independence. The dance performances were based on folk dances of India largely and Gujrat in particular. The programme lasted for four (4) hours in the evening. 188th anniversary of the arrival of indentured labourers

A commemorative event to mark the 188th anniversary of the arrival of indentured labourers in Mauritius held at the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site. The event was organized by the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India with the collaboration of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage. It showcased a cultural dance programme and an enactment that offered a glimpse into the journey and life of ‘Girmitiyas’ in the 1860s.

Commemorative event marking the landing of the first Marathi immigrants in Mauritius

The Mauritius Marathi Cultural Centre Trust unveiled a commemorative monument, marking the landing of the first Marathi immigrants in Mauritius. This emblematic event was held on 5th November 2022 at National Park, Black River Gorges in the presence of Hon’ble President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun and other eminent personalities. High Commissioner of India, Mrs. K. Nandini Singla also participated in the event.

Ayush Wellness Programme 2022

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India Mauritius organized a 'Ayush Wellness Programme' in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Government of the Republic of Mauritius. 520 health educators are being trained in 10 different batches by the Ayush Chair Prof. Ish Sharma and Ms. Sowmya Teacher of Indian Culture, IGCIC. The session was addressed by the Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Vimarsh Aryan, Director IGCIC Mr. Balwant Thakur and Director Primary Education, Ministry of Education Government of Mauritius Mrs. Aneeta Ghoorah.

Discussion on practice of Ayurveda

An engaging and interactive discussion on the practice of Ayurveda in Mauritius was organised at the High Commission of India, Mauritius on 9th November 2022. Major stakeholders of the Ayurveda sector participated actively and shared their views about building the Ayush ecosystem in Mauritius.

MoU for the ICCR Chair for Hindi Language

On 10th November 2022, a signing ceremony was held at the High Commission of India, Mauritius to extend the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) for the ICCR Chair for Hindi Language. The MoU was signed by High Commissioner Mrs. K. Nandini Singla and the Director-General of MGI, Mr. Rajcoomar Rampertab.

AKAM Cricket Tournament 2022

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, an 'AKAM Cricket Tournament 2022' was organised among the Indian community in Mauritius. Teams from Bank of Baroda, SBI (Mauritius), MTML, L&T and High Commission of India participated. Team L&T and Team High Commission of India faced off on November 19th 2022 for the much-awaited final match of the Tournament which was played at Gymkhana grounds. High Commissioner of India Mrs. K. Nandini Singla presented trophies to the winning team and the runners up, and medals to various players who performed brilliantly during the Tournament.

Interactive session for Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD) 2023

An interactive session on Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD) 2023 was held at the High Commission of India. Representatives of socio-cultural organizations in Mauritius participated in the session which was chaired by the High Commissioner in the presence of Permanent Secretary and other senior officers of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage. High Commissioner addressed those present and encouraged the registration and participation of Mauritians delegates in PBD 2023.

ITEC DAY 2022

High commission of India celebrated ITEC Day on 25th November 2022. Hon’ble Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional reforms, Sh. Teeruthraj Hurdoyal graced the event along with other dignitaries from Government of Mauritius and ITEC alumni/participants. High Commissioner of India gave welcoming remarks highlighting the importance of ITEC imparting skillful training to the participants. A short video of ITEC 2022 was screened followed by the panel discussion moderated by the Deputy High Commissioner of India. Books and souvenirs were also presented to the panelists by the High Commissioner of India. A small cultural event was also organized by IGCIC(Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture) followed by the refreshments.

Opening of the week long festival "Jashn-e-Dosti"

On the opening of the week-long festival ‘Jashn-E-Dosti’, organized by the IGCIC and the High Commission of India, the programme started with an Indo-Mauritian symphony, a musical fusion of Indian, African and European musical traditions presented by around 72 Mauritian musicians and 3 coordinators each from Conservatoire National de Musique Francois- Mitterand, Nelson Mandela Centre for African Cultural Trust Fund and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute. Audience was enthralled and enjoyed the occasion.

'Sangeet Sangam' an event as part of Jashn-e-Dosti

As part of week-long festival ‘Jashn-E-Dosti’, organized by the IGCIC and the High Commission of India, Sangeet Sangam, a mega event showcasing the amazing diversity of Indian classical from folk to contemporary traditions of Music organized in this context. This mega-event was orchestrated with the participation of around 100 artists and musicians of the IGCIC. This event was largely appreciated by the worthy audiences due to the unique masterpiece celebrating the special blend of musical instruments from both countries.

'Aap Hamare hain Kaun' a play organized as part of week log festival "Jashn-e-Dosti'

As part of week-long festival ‘Jashn-E-Dosti’, organized by the IGCIC and the High Commission of India,Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India Mauritius organized Children’s play in French, Creole, English and Hindi, titled, “Aap Hamare Hain Kaun” where we witnessed talent and confidence of Mauritian youngsters in boldly evoking difficult societal questions to their guardians/parents. The Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage has been very kind to contribute massively towards the huge success of this play. This play had a great significance for the holistic development of the participants who were still in their growth stage. By making them ponder upon societal issues which they face, the play helped them get some answers to their million questions.

Celebration of 255th Birth Anniversary of Mirza Ghalib

The Muslim Ladies Council, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India organized the 255th Birth Anniversary of Mirza Ghalib featuring ghazals by local artists. The inaugural of the event was started through the planting of botanical plants by the Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, by the former Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius and the Acting High Commissioner of India. The local artists performed ghazals which truly immersed the audience into the mesmerizing words of Mirza Ghalib. The Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius gave his knowledgeable speech on the great poet Mirza Ghalib. Momentos were given to the honored guests. Refreshments were served accordingly.

Mr. Dass is a resource of the Vedanta Academy India, regularly addressing premier companies, organizations like United Nations, and Universities like Anglo-American University and University of Cape Town and others.

The MoU was signed by the Director of IGCIC, Dr. Kadambini Acharya and the President of MSDTF, Mr. Bhojraj Ghoorbin. The signature ceremony took place in the presence of the High Commissioner of India and the Hon. Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Republic of Mauritius amongst the wide audience.

There was a Bhojpuri dance performance to inaugurate the programme followed by the welcoming and speeches of each distinguished guests and the author. To mark Ratha Saptami, Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India successfully conducted Sun Salutation/ Surya Namaskar – a series of 12 yoga postures that energize the solar plexus region, and completed 108 rounds of Surya Namaskar. Dr Kadambini Acharya, the Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture in Mauritius, gave an introduction while Dr Jateendra Mishra provided a brief overview of Surya Namaskar, citing the Upanishads and Patanjali Yoga Sutra.

Celebration of Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Lohri 2023

Indira Gandhi centre for Indian Culture and High Commission of India celebrated MakarSankranti, Pongal & Lohri at IGCIC Auditorium in Phoenix, Mauritius on 14 January. Classical performances of Kathuvakula, Pongal dance, Bharatanatyam, Bhangra & Giddha memerized the audience.Lohri folk dance was performed around the bonfire.

Swami Vivekanand Jayanti and National Youth Day 2023

To commemorate the 160 th birth anniversary of SwamiVivekananda and to mark the celebration of the National Youth Day 2023, a mesmerizing stage play titled “Shivoham Shivoham” was performed by artists of Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture in association with High Commission of India at IGCIC Auditorium on 12th January 2023.

On 22nd January, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Hon. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K. Nandini Singla, Hon. Steven Obeegadoo, Hon. Alan Ganoo, Hon. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, and the CEO of Metro Express Limited, Dr. Das Mootanah, inaugurated the Metro Express line from Rose Hill to Réduit. The Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth conveyed gratitude to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Government of India, for the support given to Mauritius in the implementation of the Metro Express project. He also thanked India for funding the phase IV of the Metro Express project from Réduit to Côte d’Or.

Art and exhibition on the occasion of International Women's Day 2023

To mark the international Women’s Day 2023, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) has organised an art and exhibition on the 7th March 2023 in collaboration with the National Women Entrepreneur Council (NWEC). Entrepreneur women from all backgrounds were invited to display their products for sale as a means to commemorate their achievements. There were products like bedlines, fancy jewelleries, pickles, towels, Mehendi application, live painting, sarees, bottles paintings and others. The exhibition was honoured by the distinguished guests including Her Excellency K. Nandini Singla, the High Commissioner of India and about 100 audiences.

Visit of Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Ships- INS TIR, Sujata and ICGS Sarathi to Mauritius

Three Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Ships- INS TIR, Sujata and ICGS Sarathi entered the Port Louis harbour on 11th March 2023. The deployment of the Ships highlights the significance of maritime partnership between India and Mauritius. As part of National Day celebrations of the Mauritius, ships from the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Ships- INS TIR, Sujata and ICGS Sarathi, were open to visitors on 12th March 2023. More than 1000 Mauritian Nationals witnessed the state of the art training equipment and facilities. A deck reception was also organized onboard the Indian Navy First Training Squadron Ships on 13th March 2023 to mark the National Day of Mauritius. A joint band performance of the Indian Naval Band and Mauritius Police Force Band enlightened the atmosphere of the evening. Hon’ble Prime Minister of Republic of Mauritius graced this occasion as the Chief Guest, along with senior dignitaries.

Live-streaming of the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference, New Delhi at HCI, Port Louis

On 18th March 2023, officials of High Commission of India and community members gathered to witness the live-streaming of the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference held in New Delhi. Attendees had the opportunity to watch the inspiring address given by PM Narendra Modi during the Inaugral session. To create awareness regarding the nutritional value of millets, delicious millet-based snacks were served to the guests following the event. On the occasion, winners of the online Millets Quiz, held from 27th February to 06th March 2023, received Millets gift hampers sponsored by Mantra Foods. Hon’ble Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Republic of Mauritius and Attorney General Maneesh Gobin participated in the inaugral session of the Conference in Delhi, and delivered an address at the Agricultural Ministers’ session held on the same day.

Ambedkar Jayanti 2023

On the occasion of Amdedkar Jayanti on the 14th April 2023, Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture seized the opportunity to showcast the film MOOKNAYAK (Leader of the Silent) at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) Multipurpose Hall at 11:00am to the students participating in the Personality Development camp. Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) hosted a Personality Development camp for students for 10 days for the children aged 8 to 15 years. The film MOOKNAYAK (Leader of the Silent) – a production of XP Division of Ministry of External Affairs was screened on this occasion at IGCIC Multipurpose Hall which highly motivated the students for their bright future.

Felicitation Ceremony to mark the conclusion of the radio programme DARSHAN

The High Commission of India in collaboration with Mauritius Broadcast Corporation and Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture organized a Felicitation Ceremony on 20th April 2023 at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix to mark the conclusion of the radio programme DARSHAN. The occasion was graced by Hon. Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun; Mrs. Subhasnee Luchmun Roy, MP; and Mrs. Prina Avinash Teeluck (Spouse of Minister of Arts and Culture Heritage of the Republic of Mauritius) and other dignitaries. 'Darshan' was a weekly radio program organized as part of 75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The program was aired on Radio Mauritius and Taal FM every Saturday from 2.15-3.15 pm for 28 weeks, focusing on every State of India. The program was well appreciated by our audience.

Eid celebrations 2023 at High commission of India

As a means to commemorate the Eid celebration in Mauritius, the High Commission of India in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture organised a programme at the High Commission of India, Ebene, Mauritius on 29th April 2023. Some prominent personalities from the Muslims community were invited for dinner while holding cultural programmes. In addition, stalls from various women entrepreneurs were set up for the displaying of their products in sought of encouraging their businesses. The programme was highly appreciated by all the guests.

Observing 162nd Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore

To mark the 162nd birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the Rabindranath Tagore Institute (RTI), Mauritius organized a Memorial lecture and ‘On-the-spot’ Drawing and Painting Competition on 11th May 2023 at Rabindranath Tagore Institute, Mauritius. High Commissioner of India graced the event and presented the awards to the winners on this occasion.
