'As part of India@75, During EAM's visit to Kenya, EAM inaugurated the Mahatma Gandhi Library at University of Nairobi which has been renovated with GOI grant assistance of US $ One million. EAM also had virtual interactions with prominent members of the business community and diaspora. 7th International Day of Yoga was celebrated in an online format, through live streaming, on Mission’s Facebook page (@IndiainKenya) on 20 June 2021. This was done keeping in line with the restrictions on gatherings on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. 'A ceremony for the Kenyan participants of the online course on Gandhian Philosophy, conducted by Dr. Shobana Radhakrishna in collaboration with ICCR organized by the Mission at India house on 5 July 2021. Certificates of Participation were presented by High Commissioner. Dr. Virander Paul met past and present leaders of Asian Foundation, Kenya and explored possibilities for stepping up collaboration especially towards celebrations of India@75 on 2 July, 2021. During the visit of INS Talwar to Mombasa, a deck-reception was hosted on 27 July, 2021 highlighting the achievements of India@75. Hon. Ababu Namwamba, CAS, Cd'A Ashish Sinha, Hon Dr Swarup R. Mishra, MP, Brig John Sankale Kiswa, Brig Yahya Abdi, senior officials from Kenya Navy, Mombasa County, prominent businesspersons & community members were in attendance. Charge d’Affaires Mr. Ashish Sinha interacted with the players and presented medals to the winning team at the Football tournament organized by Bank of Baroda Kenya as part of India@75 celebrations on 22 July, 2021. Flag Hoisting Ceremony 15th August 2021
75th Independence Day was celebrated by the High Commission of India with traditional fervour while following all Covid-19 protocols. It was not a public community event. The event was streamed live on Mission’s Facebook page @IndiaInKenya. 2. Mr. Ashish Sinha, Acting High Commissioner hoisted the national flag and read out the message of Hon’ble President of India. During his address, he spoke about the recent visit to Kenya by Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India which has imparted momentum to our bilateral ties. He informed that India is getting full support from Kenyan delegation at the UNSC where both India and Kenya are currently serving as non-permanent members and expressed gratitude for the presence of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta in India’s signature event on the high-level discussion on Maritime Security at the UNSC organized during the month of India’s presidency of the Council. He also spoke about the recent visit of Indian Navy Ship Talwar to Kenya for participation in the Cutlass Express, in a trainer role which is testament of India’s commitment for the countries along East Coast of Africa, and the Western IOR and is in keeping with India's policy of doctrine of maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region called Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR). 3. He mentioned about assistance provided to Kenyans seeking medical visas even during the difficult lockdown period and expressed satisfaction that thousands of Kenyan patients have returned from India after successful treatment. He also informed about India’s active involvement in Big Four Agenda of President Kenyatta especially through upgradation of the Rivatex factory in Eldoret, creating two thousand direct and thousands of indirect jobs. He spoke about PM Modi’s vision of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ which aims for a self-reliant and resilient India integrated with global economy. This would provide further impetus to our bilateral trade and investment ties, as the Indian Economy bounces back from the impact of the pandemic. 4. He also mentioned Capacity building through offering various courses on scholarship under ICCR and ITEC scholarships which have been redesigned to deal with the pandemic challenges and several online and e-ITEC courses were offered including a special e-ITEC course organized for the officers from Kenya Postal department. 5. He informed of various activities being organized as part of ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, commemorating 75 years of India’s independence. 6. The event was physically attended only by a few members of the Mission. A cultural programme followed the official ceremony where the spouses and children of the officials of the High Commission performed patriotic songs and children gave dance performances. Amrit Mahotsav celebration activities during September, 2021
As part of Amrit Mahotsav celebrations Mission organized the following events during the month of September, 2021: 1. A Cricket match was organized between a team from the Mission and a team comprising players from the diaspora. Acting High Commissioner addressed the gathering after the match and felicitated the players. 2. Acting High Commissioner participated in the Vanijya Saptah webinar organized as part of Amrit Mahotsav by the state of Chhattisgarh and highlighted the trade opportunities available in Kenya for exporters from the state. 3. Mission celebrated Hindi Divas by organizing Hindi poetry, debate and essay writing competitions. The Rashtrabhasha Pratigya was also administered by Acting High Commissioner to all the India-based officials of the Mission. 4. ITEC Day 2021 was celebrated in a virtual format by the Mission. Kenyan and Somali who have studied in India under ITEC & ICCR scholarships recounted their experiences. Acting High Commissioner addressed the alumni. 5. Mission publicized India’s Development partnership programmes on Mission’s social media, showcasing Development Partnership in Kenya and revival of RIVATEX, which stands out as a shining example – providing direct and indirect employment to thousands and revitalizing the cotton growing and processing in the region.
Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration activities during the Month of October, 2021
As the part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Mission organized the following events: 1. On the occasion of 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi & 15th International Day of Non-Violence, a ceremony was organized at the University of Nairobi where Acting High Commissioner lead the Mission’s officials in offering floral tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Associate Dean, University of Nairobi and members of GISAN – the Gandhi Institute for Self Reliance and Non-Violence, Kenya joined the ceremony. 2. A webinar was in association with the University of Nairobi and the Kenya-India Friendship Association (KIFA). The event was also streamed live on High Commission’s social media platforms. Chief Administrative Secretary (MOS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kenya, Hon. Ababu Namwamba joined as the Chief Guest and Director General, United Nations Office at Nairobi, Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura as Guest of honour. The event also joined by Associate Dean of University of Nairobi, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee Dr. Manu Chandaria, Chairman, Comcraft Group, Prof. Patrick L.O. Lumumba, SC, High Court Advocate and Mr. Sharad Sadashiv Rao, Former Chairman, Kenya Judges & Magistrates Vetting Board Nairobi as panelists. Gandhi Katha (A tale of Gandhi) was also delivered by Ms. Shobhana Radhakrishnan, a globally renowned Gandhian from India. 3. High Commissioner felicitated Dr Raj Phanden, also known as Cycle Baba, World Bicycle traveler and environmentalist. The event was marked by planting of tree saplings where he shared stories of his inspirational journey, spreading message for a greener future all over the world. 4. Mission participated in India-Africa Higher Education & Skill Development Summit scheduled on 21-22 October 2021 on Virtual Platform. 5. Mission joined International Virtual Conference "Leveraging the Soft Power of India", organized by the ICCR with Ministry of External Affairs and Antar Rashtriya Sahyog Parishad.
Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebration activites during the month of November, 2021
I. High Commission of India, in collaboration with Pattni Brotherhood organized an online programme of patriotic songs: 'Sangeet ki Shaam - India ke Naam 75 Years - 75 Singers' with singers from across the world. II. Mission organized a gala cultural festival in collaboration with Rajasthan Association of Kenya, showcasing Rajasthan's rich and vibrant cultural traditions - colors, music, dance & folklore. The event was part of celebrations of Amrit Mahotsav focusing on India's cultural diversity. III. High Commissioner attended a grand Diwali celebration hosted by the Hindu Council of Kenya. Principal Secretary Hon. Dr. Kevit Desai, Principal Secretary, State Department for East African Community, community leaders, trustees and heads of Hindu Council of Kenya member institutions attended the event. IV. HC participated in the national launch in Kenya of Shrimad Rajchandraji's 'Atmasiddhi Shastra', translated with commentary by Gurudevshri Rakeshji. It was hosted by the Nairobi Centre of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur. V. HC joined the community in prayers and cultural programme at Sri Murugan Temple Nairobi. VI. HC attended Gurpurab celebrations at Ramgarhia Gurudwara Sahib Pangani and conveyed good wishes to the entire Sikh community in Kenya on the auspicious occasion. VII. High Commissioner administered the Integrity Pledge, observing this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week. VIII. High Commissioner met senior leaders of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Kenya who conveyed Diwali greetings to High Commissioner on behalf of the community. IX. On the occasion of Constitution Day of India on 26th November, 2021 High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul & all officials read the Preamble of the Constitution of India in the Chancery X. 'To celebrate Constitution Day, Mission organized a physical event at Apa Pant Auditorium, High Ridge. Renowned Kenyan lawyers Mr. Pheroze Nowrojee and Mr. Sharad Rao, Prof. Dr Ombongi, Chair Kenya India Friendship Association (KIFA) and Ms.Elizabeth Choge, Deputy Director, Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the event as panelists. All dignitaries expressed their view on Constitution being key guiding force for nation building and Ms. Choge also conveyed good wishes from Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenya. Members from the community and business organizations, Som-India Association also attended. XI. Campaign for Reading of the Preamble on the MoPA and quiz on Constitution Day was publicized across the social media. Exact numbers of participation from diaspora/Friends of India are not readily available with the Mission XII. In collaboration with Hindu Council of Kenya; Bank of Baroda, Kenya and Bank of India, Kenya a Cricket Match tournament was organized at the Sikh Union Club on 27-28 November (as part of #AmritMahotsav celebrations). The four teams - Hindu Council Kenya (HCK), Bank of India (BOI), Bank of Baroda (BOB), and the High Commission of India – participated in tournament. BOB won the India@75 Cup. Matches were also streamed live on Mission’s Facebook page. XIII. On visit to Mombasa, High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul accompanied by Asst. HC Mombasa Mr Sandeep Sharma visited to Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan (BAPS), where they held a wide-ranging interaction with Indian community leaders, including on Azadi Ka AmritMahotsav celebrations in coastal counties of Kenya.

High Commission of India Nairobi **** AKAM events during the month of December, 2021 1. Mission observed Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Dr. Ambedkar with a floral tributes ceremony at Apa Pant hall as part of AKAM celebrations. A documentary on Dr. Ambedkar was screened and a photo exhibition was also held. 2. Mission organized a friendly cricket match with the Dawoodi Bohras community in Nairobi at the Nairobi campus of Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah as part of AKAM celebrations. 3. As part of AKAM celebratory events in Kenya, the Bikers Association of Kenya and Indian diaspora organised an India-Kenya Friendship Rally of bikers, from Nairobi to Nakuru Menengai Crater. High Commissioner flagged off the rally. 4. HC inaugurated the 2021 edition of Festival of Friendship (FOF) - a major community initiative since 1992, bringing diverse Indian diaspora in Kenya together through sports, in presence of leaders of over 20 participating communities. 5. HC participated in a “Mental Health Awareness” event held at Turuturu Secondary School for the local youth and school children at the invitation of Hon. Sabina Chege, Member of Parliament & Chair of Kenyan Parliamentary Committee on Health. An informal yoga session was also organized where Yoga was presented as an effective means to holistic health, including mental well-being. 6. HC attended a special function hosted by the Goan community at The Goan Institute on the occasion of the Feast Day of St. Francis Xavier and conveyed his wishes to the community. HC also visited Shri Swaminarayan Temple, Nairobi and met senior management of the temple and members of the Swaminarayan community. 7. Art of Living Kenya team called on HC, briefing on their 'Yoga & Leadership' programmes with communities in Nairobi and around & their plans in the run-up to International Day of Yoga 2022. 8. Office bearers of Rajasthan Association of Kenya called on HC to share their plans of holding Amrit Mahotsav celebrations at East Africa level on the occasion of Rajasthan Diwas in March 2022.
AKAM events during the Month of January, 2022
1. High Commissioner flagged off Day 1 of India's global 75 Suryanamaskar project in Kenya at a virtual event in partnership with International Federation of Yoga Professionals (IFYP-Kenya) and Hindu Council of Kenya. 2. Mission organized an event to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 2022. Dr. Kevit Desai, Principal Secretary, State Department of East African Community, Govt of Kenya was the Chief Guest at the event. Speakers included the PBD Samman awardees from Kenya – Dr. Manu Chandaria, Mr. Pheroze Nowrojee, Dr. Prakash Heda and Mr. PV Sambasiva Rao; noted legal expert Mr. Sharad Rao and Mr. Aasif Karim, former Cricket captain of Kenya. The event was attended by representatives of diaspora organizations and was live streamed on Mission’s social media. PS Dr. Kevit Desai & HC launched an eBook on unique features of Constitution by Mr. Sharad Rao. The event ended with a Vote of Thanks by DHC Mr. Ashish Sinha. 3. Mission organized celebrations of Vishwa Hindi Diwas 2022 in hybrid format in collaboration with the Hindi Samiti of East Africa. A number of poets/presenters/singers gave their presentations in Hindi in presence of guests from community organizations. The event was live streamed on Mission’s social media. 4. On the occasion of Indian Army Day (15th January), High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul, alongwith officers of Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) and Indian community leaders paid tributes at Taveta and Maktau Indian Cemeteries in Kenya in remembrance of the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives, fighting in the East African campaign of the 1st World War (1914-18). 5. HC attended Makar Sankranti 2022 celebrations in Nairobi hosted by HSS-Kenya. He recognised and thanked the community for their support and active participation in various activities dedicated to Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. 6. HC attended Uttarayan/Makar Sankranti kite flying celebrations at Premier Club Stadium in Nairobi and joined the the Indian diaspora communities in kite-flying festivities. 7. HC accompanied by Brig. Sumit Mehta of Indian Army and DA Capt. Nitesh Garg (IN), joined Kenyan Defence Forces officers and senior Indian diaspora representatives paid tributes at the 'African Soldier' at the crest of Mwashoti Hill. 8. HC accompanied by Defence Advisor attended cultural diversity, friendship and mutual goodwill programme (organized by National Defence Collage) at NDC premises. Commandant NDC Maj Gen CM Kahariri, and Chief Guest - Director General of Kenya Wildlife Service, Brigadier (Retd.) John Waweru attended the event and worn one of the traditional Indian turbans, added much colour to the festive atmosphere. 9. DHC Ashish Sinha attended Makarsankranti celebration at Maharashtra Manda, DHC delivered his address as Chief Guest and felicitated the winners of Rangoli and Painting competitions, legal expert Sharad Rao also spoke about uniqueness of the Indian Constitution. 10. On the occasion of National Tourism Day Mission organized an online Conference/ webinar in partnership with India Tourism Office, Dubai on the promotion of tourism from Kenya. HC delivered a key note address and described the opportunities to enhance tourism between Kenya and India. The panel of Travel companies from Kenya also participated in the conference. 11. 73rd Republic Day of India was celebrated at the India House, Nairobi with traditional fervor of unfurling of Indian tricolor flag and reading of President of India’s address by the High Commissioner, followed by cultural programme including songs and dance by members of Indian community. Indian community and friends of India in Kenya and Somalia participated in the celebrations in virtual mode, on mission’s Facebook page @IndiainKenya, owing to the Covid-19 protocols. HC expressed the steady progress in multifaceted India-Kenya bilateral ties and hope of a fast recovery from the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. He recalled the recent visit of External Affairs Minister of India to Nairobi in June 2021 as a major step forward in implementation of the roadmap devised during the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Kenya in 2016 and President Kenyatta to India in 2017. HC appreciated the role of the diaspora as a living bridge between the two countries and lauded them for coming forward to participate in the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ an initiative also to celebrate the glorious history of Indian community abroad and their achievements. On Martyrs' Day, High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul, accompanied by the High Commission officers, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at University of Nairobi (UoN); also gratefully remembered all those who made sacrifices in India's freedom struggle. At the event, Prof. Kenneth Ombongi, Chairman of Kenya-India Friendship Association (KIFA) represented the Vice Chancellor of UoN, Prof. Stephen Kiama; also present was Mr. Nicholas Otieno, Secretary of an NGO, who is working in Kenya for non-violent ways of handling inter-community conflict, using Gandhian ways.. Short speeches on the occasion focussed on the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. HC Dr. Paul inter alia highlighted that, as a mark of respect for India, the Gandhi statue, Mahatma Gandhi Wing and the Gandhi Library at UoN are today widely viewed as prominent landmarks on the large university campus, reflecting the close and longstanding collaborative relationship between the Indian High Commission and University of Nairobi. 1. High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul attended a special screening of the Indian film 83 on India's historic victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, jointly hosted by EastFM Radio and MacCoffee. 2. A friendly cricket match was organized between Bank of Baroda (Kenya) Ltd. and High Commission of India at Nairobi Jaffery Sports Club. 3. Mission, in association with the Heartfulness Institute organized a Surya Namaskar session. 4. Mission widely publicized ‘Thanjavur Utsav’ held from 11 to 13 February 2022, to celebrate the traditions of “Iyal” (Literature), “Isai” (Music) and “Natakam” (Dance and Theatre) of Tamil Nadu, organised by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts under the aegis of Ministry of Culture of India as part of Amrit Mahotsav. 5. AKAM activities during the month of March 2022 High Commissioner attended the celebration of Rajasthan Diwas 2022 as Chief Guest, organized in collaboration with 'Rajasthan Association of Kenya' in Nairobi. The event was marked by the traditional vibrant colours, delightful flavours, folk music and dances, with Messages for the occasion from the Rajasthan Chief Minister and Rajasthan Foundation. High Commissioner attended the event organized by the Bihar and Jharkhand Association of Kenya in collaboration with the Mission to celebrate the Bihar Day on 22 March. It included a cultural programme and an exhibition showcasing Bihar’s rich history, culture, handicrafts and export products. DHC Mr Ashish Sinha visited Gurudwara of historic importance in Kericho in southwest Kenya and presented a special edition of the book on Guru Nanak Dev ji. DHC Ashish Sinha joined a get together organized by the Kenya- India Friendship Association & Hindu Council of Kenya - Kisumu branch and discussed activities to celebrate AKAM in Kisumu and neighbouring Countes. Mission publicized and shared Youtube links on its social media portals for Unlock the Music - Season 2, fifth concert of the series a Santoor Recital by Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya accompanied by Shri Jyotirmoy Roy Chowdhury on Tabla. Mission publicized the commemoration of 92nd Anniversary of Salt Satyagraha and in collaboration with ICCR. Mission hosted a live talk on “Salt Satyagraha -The Power of Nonviolent Action” by Dr. Shobhna Radhakrishna, internationally acclaimed speaker on Mahatma Gandhi. Mission has celebrated ‘Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat’(EBSB) week through social media posts on ‘Unity in Diversity’ from 7th to 13 March 2022 and publicized through its social media. Mission publicized the activities under the AKAM, done by MEA, Ministry of Culture and PMO, such as one year of completion of one year of AKAM; Man Ki Baat; Pariksha Pe Charcha; Putul Utsav; Shaheedi Divas (Martyr’s Day); Holika Dahan etc. through its social media.

1. Mission widely publicized the 5th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha held on 1st April 2022 through its social media handles. The live streaming of the event was shared through Mission’s Facebook and Twitter. The event’s video was also posted on the Mission’s website. 2. High Commissioner hosted Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Health, Kenya Dr. Mercy Mwangangi and & senior Kenyan and Indian experts to discuss about new prospects in India-Kenya cooperation in healthcare. Godfrey Buluma of Kenyan Defence Forces jointly inaugurated an 'India Corner' at Taita Hills Lodge in honoured memory of Indians who fought alongside African soldiers on the battlefield Taita Taveta Kenya in East Africa campaign of WorldWar-1 on 27.04.2022. 5. HC paid a courtesy call on Ms Zainab Hawa Bangura, Director General of United Nation office in Nairobi and discussed the possibility of organizing the International Day of Yoga in the United Nation’s compound in Nairobi. 6. HC, accompanied by Mission’s officials met with cross-section of the diverse Indian diaspora community in Kenya, including some associations representing individual Indian states, at the Chancery premises on 9th April to discuss among themselves and to also apprise the Mission Commission about their proposals on major AKAM (India@75) activities in the coming months. 7. AKAM related activities during the month of May 2022 1. The High Commission organised a commemorative celebration on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on 9th May in collaboration with Kenya Bengalee Cultural and Welfare Society (KBCWS). The presentations informed about the various facets of the inspiring life and remarkable legacy of Nobel Laureate Gurudev Tagore, besides recitations, dance and songs. The High Commissioner of Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Tareque Muhammad also joined the event. 2. HC met the spiritual leader of Bohra community, Mr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin; discussed the Bohra community's remarkable contributions to the society, further enriching the people to people relations between India & Kenya. 3. HC attended the Maharashtra Day 2022 celebrations in Nairobi organized by the Maharashtra Mandal and launched the new website of the organization. HC also attended the annual cultural festival of the Telegu Cultural Association (TELCA) that has been revived after a gap of five years and conveyed his greetings and good wishes on the occasion. 4. High Commission of India Nairobi **** AKAM related activities during the month of June 2022. 1. Celebrations of 8th International Day of Yoga under the theme of “Yoga for Humanity”, were led by UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Stephen Jackson, who represented Director General of United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNoN), and the High Commissioner at United Nations Complex in Nairobi, on 21 June, 2022. The event was attended by over 150 Yoga enthusiasts including several Ambassadors & High Commissioners of resident Missions in Nairobi; UN officials; diplomatic corps; Indian diaspora; and local community. HC, in his opening remarks, underscored the importance of yoga for a healthy body & mind and how during the Covid-19 pandemic, yoga helped a lot of people fight depression and mental illnesses. Mr. Stephen Jackson, UN Resident Coordinator conveyed the message of DG, UnoN and said it was an honour for the UN fraternity to celebrate the day at the UN complex. An avid Yoga enthusiast himself, he demonstrated some difficult yoga postures. Prior to the event at UNoN, High Commission of India, in association with diaspora organizations, had organized another grand event to celebrate the IDY 2022 on 19th June at Premier Club Ground, Nairobi which saw participation from over 3500 Yoga enthusiasts including Indian diaspora; local community and students. Yoga camps for the young Kenyan communities were organised in Embu County and in Kerugoya, Mount Kenya in the run up to the IDY 2022. The events were widely covered by the local print & electronic media, and appeared in all prominent newspapers. An article titled “Kenyans urged to embrace Yoga treatment” appeared in the largest selling news paper Daily Nation, covering the celebrations of IDY 2022 organized by the Mission at the UN office in Nairobi. The article included an interview by HC. A Yoga camp was also organised in Kerugoya, Mount Kenya region on 12th June in the run up to the main upcoming celebrations of the 8th International Day of Yoga in Kenya. 2. Under-Secretary-General & Director General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) H.E. Zainab Hawa Bangura planted a tree at India House to mark the 8th International Day of Yoga. 3. HC participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Ramgarhia Gurdwara Sahib Pangani, Nairobi, conveyed good wishes and applauded Ramgarhia community's contributions to the Kenyan society & to India-Kenya ties. 4. HC attended the inaugural community meeting of Kenya Brahma Samaj and spoke on India-Kenya ties and the role of Indian Diaspora. 5. HC visited Gurdwara Sahib Makindu - a well known holy Sikh shrine in Kenya, the history of which is also linked to the history of the arrival of Indians in East Africa. 6. HC and Misssion officials participated in "Sanskritik Mahotsav 2022", a mega celebration of Indian culture in Kenya, dedicated to AKAM, organized by Hindu Council of Kenya, 7. HC particiapted in the the Festival of Chariots 'Rath Yatra' organised by ISKCON Nairobi in the framework of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. 8. HC attended a curtain raiser event for the South Indian Cricket Tournament, a popular annual feature, organised by South India Cultural Society Nairobi. 9. A talk by Smt. Shobhana Radhakrishna, a renowned Gandhian scholar, titled “Bardoli Satyagraha" - A defining movement in the Indian Independence Struggle led by Sardar Patel” was premiered on Mission’s social media to commemorate the 94th Anniversary of Bardoli Satyagraha.

1. High Commissioner attended the final match at the conclusion of the traditionally popular annual cricket tournament of the South Indian Cultural Society (SICS) of Kenya at Nairobi Gymkhana. 2. Celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav India@75 and 50 years of the independence of Bangladesh, Kenya Bengalee Cultural and Welfare Society (KBCWS), in collaboration with the High Commissions of India & Bangladesh, organized a cultural event on the life and legacy of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam on 3rd July 2022. High Commissioners Virander Paul and Tareque Muhammad along with Dr. Anup Das, Chairman of KBCWS co-inaugurated the event High Commissioner along with Mission’s official attended the event. 3. A friendly game of cricket was organized between the teams of the High Commission of India and the Sikh Union Club Nairobi in the presence of the Kenyan Sikh community leaders. Legendary Kenyan hockey captain Avtar Singh Sohal (Tari to friends and admirers), who represented Kenya at four Olympics, graced the occasion. His instinctive affection for India and deep devotion to sports inspired both the teams. 4. A cricket match was organized between South Indian Cultural Society (SICS) and the Indian High Commission at the iconic Gymkhana Club Nairobi on 16th July. 5. AKAM activities during the month of August 2022 1. Mission celebrated National Handloom Day on 7th August 2022 to promote handloom art & tradition of India. A Handloom exhibition & a fashion show presenting beautiful handloom dresses/sarees were organized during the event. Indian community members, Kenyan friends and media people attended the event. Event was widely covered in print and electronic media. 2. As part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, commemorating 75 years of India’s independence, 76th Independence Day was celebrated by the High Commission of India with traditional fervor at India House. High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul hoisted the Indian national flag and read out the message of Hon’ble President of India. During his address, High Commissioner spoke about the recent developments in bilateral relations and further possibilities in cooperation. He also spoke about the visit of Indian Naval Ship “Tabar” to Mombasa to hoist the Indian national flag on the occasion of 76th Independence Day of India as the part of ‘ Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. A series of cultural performances followed the official ceremony with participation of various community organizations, including a skit by a diaspora cultural organization titled ‘Azadi ka Mahan Safar’ – depicting the incredible journey of India’s quest for freedom from 1857 to 1947. The ladies of the High Commission also sang patriotic songs and the children gave dance performances. Of special interest was a selfie booth at the event, promoting the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and AKAM. A large number of guests got their pictures clicked at the booth and posted on their social media. Around 400 people, including Indian diaspora, friends of India and media attended the event which was widely covered by the local media. Light Indian refreshments were served at the end of the event. 3. INS Tabar visited at Mombasa Port, Kenya to celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. During the visit, the ship and the crew participated in numerous celebrations in the city of Mombasa such as India-Kenya Friendship Run & India-Kenya Medical Camp. A large number of Indian Diaspora and friends of India graced the event. A deck reception was also hosted by High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul and the Commanding officer of the Ship. Members of the Diplomatic Corps and Defence Advisor community accredited to Kenya were present on occasion. Community leaders and representatives of Indian and Kenyan businesses too participated enthusiastically, attended the reception in good numbers. The fact that Kenya is the only country in Africa where an Indian Naval Ship has been deployed for hoisting the Indian National Flag to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was very well received, reflecting strong bonds of friendship and mutual goodwill between India and Kenya 4. Mission celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo on 15th August, 2022 in Apa Pant Auditorium, High Ridge. A movie on the life of Sri Aurobindo, practiced meditation and discussed his contribution “Aurobindo: The beginning of spiritual journey” was screened during the event. 5. Acting High Commissioner Mr. Rohit Vadhwana visited BAPS temple Nairobi, temple committee presented the first individual invite to the Festival of Inspirations to Mr. Vadhwana and his wife during their visit.
