MEETING UNDER QUADRILATERAL GROUPING

3439. SHRI B. LINGAIAH YADAV:

Will the Minister of External Affairs be pleased to state:

(a) whether India joined Australia, Japan and the United States for a ministerial meeting under the quadrilateral grouping during which key issues, including Myanmar, came up for discussion; and

(b) if so, the details thereof and present status therefor?

(a) & (b) The 3rd India-Australia-Japan-USA Quadrilateral Ministerial Meeting was held virtually on 18 February 2021 with participation of the respective Foreign Ministers.

The Ministers discussed ongoing efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, including vaccination programmes. They expressed their commitment to cooperate in addressing this challenge including enhancing access to affordable vaccines, medicines and medical equipment.

The Ministers also exchanged views on responding to climate change and furthering cooperation in areas such as maritime security, HADR, supply chain resilience and counter-terrorism. With respect to discussions on recent developments in Myanmar, India reiterated the need to uphold the rule of law and democratic process.
