Visit of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia

​His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia, visited India from 29-31 May 2023 on his maiden State Visit marking the culmination of the celebrations of 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cambodia in 1952. This maiden State Visit by the King of Cambodia took place after almost six decades with last one by his father King Norodom Sihanoauk in 1963.

​2. His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni was welcomed by the President and Prime Minister of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour. Later, the King paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in Delhi.

​3. During the visit His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni met with the President and Prime Minister of India. The Vice-President and External Affairs Minister called on the King. The President also hosted a banquet in honour of His Majesty, the King of Cambodia.

​4. President, in her meeting with His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, said that India and Cambodia share a rich and vibrant relationship and India values our shared history. The President noted that there is great potential for further growth in bilateral trade and investment and emphasised the need to increase tourism and people-to-people contacts. The President appreciated the participation of Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia in the inaugural session of the Voice of Global South Summit in January this year. She congratulated Cambodia for successfully steering ASEAN during its Chairmanship last year. ​

​5. Prime Minister met His Majesty King Sihamoni and underscored the deep civilisational ties, strong cultural and people-to-people connect between both countries. Prime Minister assured His Majesty of India’s resolve to strengthen the bilateral partnership with Cambodia across diverse areas including capacity building, development of human resources, and providing assistance for socio-economic projects. His Majesty thanked the Prime Minister for India’s ongoing initiatives in development cooperation, and conveyed his appreciation and best wishes for India’s Presidency of G-20.
