NEW PASSPORT KENDRA

5026. SHRI M. SELVARAJ:

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to open a new Passport Kendra in each district of the country and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government is aware that no passport Kendra is functioning in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu;

(c) if so, the reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government proposes to open a Passport centre through Postal Sewa Kendra; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER

(a) to (e) Ministry in association with Department of Posts (DOP) had announced in January, 2017 the opening of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) at the Head Post Offices (HPO)/Post Offices (PO) in each Parliamentary constituency where there is no Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). As on date, there are 521 Passport Kendras (93 Passport Seva Kendras and 428 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras) operational in the country. A Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) is already functioning at Sirkali Head Post Office in Nagapattinam District under Mayiladuthurai Parliamentary (Lok Sabha) Constituency. In addition to this, one more POPSK is also functioning at Tiruthuraipoondi Head Post Office under Nagapattinam Parliamentary Constituency.
